copy paste threads get copy paste responses?

I'll be giving this a go - the artwork is great but it means nothing if I don't like the gameplay. The only thing I cringed at was the player movement, some really awkward animations there.

The word on the street is that it's basically a modern day Red Orchestra. I'm a beta tester (or at least I would by if Source games didn't restart my computer for fun) so I can't say whether it's really like that without violating the NDA, but I do love Red Orchestra.

Speaking of which RO's about to get a new patch. What interesting timing.

Very very nice trailer guys, congrats to you all and good luck with the release. I'll certainly be installing this to have a look. I really want to see a popular source mod asap.

Looks very promising and well polished. I agree with puzl, most of the source mods that have been released get played for a few weeks/months but then dies down. Insurgency looks like it'll have a different outcome.

I hope so. I mean HL2: the story was enjoyable and all, but the real reason I bought Source was to buy into a modding scene like HL1 had... however we're all still waiting for that to happen. I've gone through a couple different Source mods (Empires, Eternal Silence, etc) desperately hoping that they'd be the breakthrough mod (like TFC or CS was for HL) and there was really nothing "wrong" about them other than the fact there was a maximum total of like 10 players online at any given time. I'm hoping this one could be a breakthrough (or at least inspire one to happen soon).

yah know, I am in the same boat as you.

For any one who started playign HL or Quake at the start, how long before the first really serious mods (TF/TFC/CS/whatever) started showing up?

I mean, you are right some of those mods are very well developed (Empires comes to mind), but lacking in players...

    looks very, very nice.

but it's a known fact that every single beta 1 release of a HL2 mod is unplayable due to lag!

Nah that was only the first crop, or the really ambitious ones like Empires, Iron Grip, and Eternal Silence. Revolt: The Decimation, for example, is lag free on its first release, and I don't think The Hidden was too awful.

I don't, but I hate my entertainment having factual discrepancies... I actually hated that before I joined the military, lol.

I don't think I'll be downloading this unless it gets some really positive feedback from other people. It really just seems like yet another damn squad-based-ish tactical shooter (A.K.A. CS clone) with a slightly different setting. I've for BF2 for my modern-era shooting game.

i think there's still room in that genre- BF2 would have perfected it but they made armoured vehicles/jets/choppers too damned powerful, and if you play on an infantry only server everyone just goes sniper and camps.

get a game that's basically BF2's city maps, with balanced classes, and i'd give it a whirl.

that's pretty bs. I play infantry all the time and it's never like that.

Careful around that word, "perfect." BF2's engine is too clunky and overly demanding of hardware for the output it produces to call the game perfect outside of balance issues. It was, however, a pretty successful attempt considering the kind of chaos that type of game promotes and how much worse it could have been.

As far as Insurgency being a CS clone, my best guess leans closer to America's Army. America's Army is somewhat fun, but it's also realistic in unintended (?) ways: players desperately avoid death because they don't want to sit for ten minutes before the next round.

Insurgency looks promising, and the Source engine, compared to BF2 and whatever Unreal engine AA runs on, is lean and efficient. Keep it up Ins team, we're hoping for a nice crop of Source-y goodness this year.
