<div class="IPBDescription">in MMOs games</div>
Interesting and funny article on how to spot people in MMOs games trying to pass on as a different gender player and what they try to do to deceive us.

If you find this article in any way relevant to your life I would question whether you're any better than those who it addresses.

A real girl does not need to tell you why she's getting offline. If she does tell you, it will almost never be something related to a girly activity; both because it's none of your business and because girls can paint their nails and do their make up while they play. After all, anyone who's good at an MMO is a natural multi-tasker.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hi, my name is lolfighter, and I'm a casual gender faker. The quick, simple reason, is this:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->When you're locked into a serious gaming frenzy of say 40+ hours a week, it's more entertaining for men to focus on a feminine backside swaying from side to side - and most female character models are more aesthetically pleasing than their male counterparts.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That being said, I don't go out of my way to reassure people that I am, in fact, a man playing a female character. In fact, questions about my gender are generally met with flat refusal. I think it's a slightly creepy and wholly irrelevant question, and my refusal to answer has led several people to make assumptions.

So in short, people mistake my gender, and I don't bother to correct them. The deception, however, is theirs, not mine.

I mostly play male characters, except when they look all "THOR USE HAMMOR" (or when classes or stats are sex-bound etc). I'd correct people that think I'm female tbh.

I'm pretty much the same way. I usually just pick the female characters since i don't feel the need to over compensate for anything by having some burly guy character and they're just easier on the eyes.

The real article here should be:
    "<b>How to spot pooty-blinded players</b>"
    1) Will give items/money to players he/she believes to be female... simply because they are female.
    2) Upon learning of the presence of potential pooty on his/her server, the pooty-blinded player will undergo a complete metamorphosis in priorities such that time previously spent playing the game is now delegated to conjuring forth lame, over-strenuous verbal and/or visual attempts at garnering the attention of the suspected possesor of the pooty.
    3) Pooty-blinded players will often seek to boast of his/her relationship with a designated potential pooty, even if so miniscule as to subside into non-existance (or wholly non-existant), so as to incur the admiration of his/her fellow pooty-blinded bretheren.

If you come into contact with a suspected pooty-blind, please pity them for their lack of judgement and self-restraint (and most likely, company of the opposite sex) and show them discerning, yet instructional compassion (such as "no leetboy169, giving your account number and information to honeybunny5 so that she may contact you is not such a good idea"). After having done this, it is imperative that you flee quickly, for if this pooty-forsaken player does not heed your advice, your beloved battlefield will soon be laced with potent (as well as impotent) e-hormones, capable of nausiating your entire being to the core on the very contact.

    I can prove that wrong!

My GF played a female night elf, admittedly not for that long, she switched by to her human warrior.

I periodically will play female characters, If people ask I will tell em I am a guy. If people don't I will not say anything. If people hit on me I will laugh. I also had the first time a "girl" hit on me (when playing a guy) last night. It kinda screamed out "I AM A GUY" to me, so I just ignored them, but whatever <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

BTW, the last few items on the list are rather stupid.

I played a female night elf for about 2 hours until I decided that I hated WoW.

... now I play a female blood elf named "Idontloveyou."

That said, the writer's got some points.

I should ask my friend how is girlfriend is in WoW, since that's all she does. I don't think she acts cute though, she's a Goliath of a woman with f*ckin' temper control problem, so the article has some redeeming points.

my gf plays wow with me, 2 accounts 1 70 per faction xD

she has a male orc warlock, and a female human warlock, she doesnt act up or crave attention or any of that, but what ive noticed is alot of her "friends" seem to be the skeezy kind of guys who try for that kind of stuff. ofc, she thinks they are just friends, i just turn a blind eye, i trust her enough that if she needed my help she would ask <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

The only reason this article would apply to you is if you're one of those disgusting piles of human waste that pile currency and items on a female character she/he bats his/her virtual eyelashes at you and your pants get a slight wiggle in them.

Besides that, it's painfully obvious when a female is a female and when a female is a male.

Does it matter? I mean, that person of indeterminate gender is on the other side of a net connection, and despite all your darkest fantasies, you will not be meeting him/her for a hot date.

The tricky ones are the females playing male characters. I've actually found out about two on the server I played on, and nobody ever suspected it.

My LOTRO guild has almost a 50% female population, if you can believe it. There's usually more female voices on vent than male. I guess the game has the right stuff to attract the ladehs. An 18 year old girl among us plays a male hobbit, because they're so cute.

What gender someone playing a video game is in real life is totally irrelevant.

If you don't think it is, then you're probably one of those creepy people that thinks they can convince a female gamer to titillate them in exchange for what are ultimately trinkets and unwanted attention. In which case, if you end up getting scammed, then you probably deserve it.

I don't know about that. A person's gender usually tells you more about their personality than any other one attribute. And since our personality is all we are known by online, I'd say its useful information to have before I go out on a raid with someone. For example, I would say on average *real* women are much less likely to steal/loot/stab you in the back online than a 'fake' one. Yes there are exceptions to every rule, but that doesn't mean the rules aren't generally true/useful.

Yeah I haven't been able to convince my fiance to play any game besides bejeweled but she is starting LOTR with me soon. Same thing with my best friend's girl. Something about the game seems to appeal to women more than most others. Maybe because they already know the universe so its easier to get into the game.

I'm sorry but that simply isn't true. You could spend any amount of time online with someone and, unless they choose to divulge their gender to you, you'd honestly have no way of knowing. That's why gender fakers can get away with it, including if they're being subtle and not acting stereotypically feminine. Chances are you've played with women who did nothing more than use a male avatar and not say "hey guys, I'm female". Chances are you also have no idea that was the case. If gender was the most reliable indicator of personality type, then none of this would be true. Yes, societal pressures might force people into traditional, assigned gender roles which would include <i>some</i> attributes of personality, but even that's not clear-cut enough to be reliable.

Real women probably are less likely to screw over their fellow players, but then so are a majority of male players. The fakers do it because they're already out to scam people, and the faking is part of that. Yes, most of them are male, but then most of the player base is male too, so it follows that they would be. This activity has nothing to do with the gender of any of the people doing it, and everything to do with a small group of players out to exploit others.
