I also nominate ns_hydrosity. It's a very good map, but few people want to play it due to the file size and the map is absolutely ginormous.

I'd also nominate ns_fenris since I put a fair amount of work into that map myself.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    mmm moist.

Did you borrow Fenris from FS2? just interested...

I think the point that sherpa makes is one that must be considered, and therefore we should try to keep the map pack reasonably small. I would think that a limit of 3 classic and 3 combat maps would be reasonable and would hopefully produce a map pack in the 15MB-25MB range. With this limitation the competition would be hot and I think we would get a really great selection of maps.

What I'd like to see happen is for us to get a mappack out within 4-6 weeks of 3.2 final release. We would then probably select some of the maps for official inclusion in 3.3 and publish a new pack afterwards with more custom maps.

I wouldnt worry too much about filesize since zippep maps are pretty small. Mine is 9 MB uncompresst, 2,6 MB with normal zip compression. Imo the community is divided between co and ns. The problem is there are too few pub players online for both modes and so co-servers with bots are often the only chance to play though it is really no fun nor competiton. I think new maps are a great way to get more people playing - you need new bot wps not? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> Die bots hrhr.

What sort of time frame are you thinking of, puzl? From the responses so far, everyone wants to get their already-made maps into this build, when while reading it I got the impression that there would be time enough to make a whole new map. So how long after 3.2 release were you imagining for this map pack? days? weeks? months?

And I saw a mention of this in the thread, but I'll make sure the Classic Maps included in the pack will have the minimaps cleaned-up, vents colored, labeled and have transparencies applied like we do with the official maps.

Gives JazzX a victory cookie. I already have the two colored/cleaned minimap types based on those from ns3.1. I'm just curious how to make those transparant ones. I can't get them to go transparant and of course I am doing something wrong <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Not to de-rail the thread, but minimap transparency is a hack. Basically take your opaqe minimap and color every other pixel with your transparent background color - Red (255,0,0) by default. I've found that it is best to not apply the transparency effect over the labels, as it makes them too hard to read.

Ah, I wish my map could be included with this map pack, but I'd stand no hope <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />. I just started <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> and working on my first map, <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=1610463530335997952&showtopic=100271" target="_blank">ns_crescent</a> (I hope the name isn't already token <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />) and that looking at these amazing maps like nexus.... they make the hl engine look much newer than it actually is. Maybe I'll be able to catch a later map pack, because I wont rush this map.

BTW: If anyone wants to look at my map plans and make any idea's, I more than welcome you to. I want this to be a great map with a little bit of a unique game play.

I'd like to submit co_amenability, if possible, and if I have enough time (and willpower) possibly form it into an NS map.

    EDIT - Oops, didn't see how old it was. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    Sorry!

    Hear, hear...

I'm not sure if Droggog is still working on it, but co_minas looked very promising.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    <3

Yep i'm still working on it. Currently -full compiling the (hopefully) FINAL version. Made many changes based on the feedback i got from various forums, playtesting by YO-clan, and at a LAN.

I'll bump the <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=98653" target="_blank">thread</a> or make a new one with the file and a changelog shortly. I really like the idea of an official mappack, and hope co_minas will be good enough to be considered for a possible inclusion... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

We haven't forgotten about this project, we've just been busy catching up on all the stuff that got sidelined during the 3.2 release crunch. I've been extremely busy at work with a project deadline, I've been busy at home buying and assembling my new pc, and we've had a very early summer here in Ireland, so I've been getting out enjoying the good weather. The original purpose of this topic was to forewarn all you guys of an upcoming opportunity to get more exposure for your work. I still think that it was a good idea to pre-announce the project, to give motivation to those of you who might be interested in participating. I'll talk to the team this week about the map pack and see if we can get the ball rolling in the next couple of weeks.

    Bumperoony-tooney-tuesday!

Still gonna happen? Or gonna kind of wait out the summer a bit? Pretty sure there is still interest in contributing so long as someone can find the time to put it together.

Would love to get some more dev chatter in here. We just saw the release of two more sweet ns maps, ns_bliss_v1 and ns_saturn. Both need some touchups, but could easily be ready to go for a map pack within a month.

Heh, what i dont understand is, why doesnt the dev team just announce it? Even say its 6 months away, if need be. You really only need about a week as of now. A few months ago, i claimed that a map pack could be prepared in a month, but that was before all these maps got all these updates, and before a few of the real shiner's were even known to the public.

There supposedly isnt even a planned 3.3. NS could really use another infusion of content, and this content is <i>already made</i>.

Even though these are no my maps i would like to suggest:

    CO_Prime
Always has been fun on custom servers, not to hard to get lost, and good balance

    CO_FireFly (v2)
The visuals lack a littile bit, but other then that, worth a vote

    NS_Nexus (v2)
Balanced, large yet small, only bad point is it takes a while to learn

    NS_Saturn (V3)

ns_training is an interesting map for sure. Covers alot of ground in a fun cinematic way.

Even if the devs don't pump this, we should totally make one of our own, and if we select the right maps, maybe the devs can throw in support a bit later. Especially since some really really nice work just came out. Sure there's some tweaking to do, but what map is ever perfect?

Heck, there's some of the official maps me and my friends actively avoid.

No doubt tons of work went into making ns_training, but IMO it seems a bit unpolished for an official release.

    Voice acting much?

Also, it doesn't cover the tech tree at all except for the stuff in the starting room, which is disappointing (what's an Arms Lab? AA?).

However, it's fun and gives the starting player a nice jump start instead of reading a couple pages to figure it out. I use it for new players but tend to chime in and explain stuff as we go along. Then we throw them into a game and help them as stuff comes up.
