IMO, the best song Disney has ever made.

Everything from "Beauty and The Beast" is better.

<a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=jtGy2rp1zgA" target="_blank">Gaston Song</a>, it doesn't get manilier than that. No one's neck is incredibly thick as Gaston. No one god damnit!

Gaston is like a very very close second... Close like, they went into overtime and Mulan BARELY won. I commend you on your good taste though, sir, that's like my second favorite Disney song >:D

This has nothing to do with what's on the Disney Channel right now, and everything to do with the Disney movies we grew up with in the 90s. Real Disney movies stopped somewhere around Tarzan, in case you didn't know. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />

...I stopped watching them before Mulan (...unfortunately?). I mean, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/company/co0008970/" target="_blank">Disney</a> started pumping out crap movies right around 1998 (A Bug's Life and Mulan are arguably the only good movies from that year). Heck, if I were a movie, I wouldn't even want my <i>year</i> associated with trash like <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0143808/" target="_blank">Pocahontas 2</a> or <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120131/" target="_blank">The Lion King 2</a>...plus it has to be downhill after <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118570/" target="_blank">Air Bud</a>...

    I'll go with <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103639/" target="_blank">Aladdin</a> because of its lack of political correctness (...who knew "'where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face / it's barbaric, but, hey, it's home" would push the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American-Arab_Anti-Discrimination_Committee" target="_blank">ADC</a>'s buttons...), and because as a rambunctious youngster I enjoyed the <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=IPExGPWvleY" target="_blank">One Jump Ahead</a> Aladdin introduction (but what 5 year old English speaker is going to know what the hell a "nom de plume" is?). Although <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=YRi20cWMYOM" target="_blank">A Whole New World</a> is probably far more memorable for most people (also comes in numerous quick-searched languages on YouTube... <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=_Cu5hllQMYo" target="_blank">Chinese - Cantonese</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=uEl0P9CmCag" target="_blank">Chinese - Mandarin</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=QNLIlauJ6_4" target="_blank">Danish</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=sl7BQnDg7tE" target="_blank">Dutch</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=NMmohDXhA-E" target="_blank">Finnish</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=I2P66ti5j_Q" target="_blank">French</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=8FsGqhbBb8w" target="_blank">German</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=jxcuULKPwb0" target="_blank">Icelandic</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=GJx5q2SowKE" target="_blank">Italian</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=FX9elK4zyGE" target="_blank">Japanese</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=LT04HJcbj6M" target="_blank">Korean</a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=TINPobJVFEc" target="_blank">Polish </a>, <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wl-jD-HpipM" target="_blank">Swedish</a> ... and <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=iZY2HlmKPy8" target="_blank">Arabic</a> (behold the irony!) - not counting the 'fandubs' and other weird crap on the interwebs).

I know there were numerous Lion King songs I like when I was young as well, but their titles elude me. Disney's really gone downhill...when's the last time their newer films got a song that was played on the radio? Well, I'm not really sure since I don't listen to the radio, but I'm fairly sure it wasn't recently.

No, I did not know that, perhaps you could define a timeline and mention "Movies Only"in your first post. It's a shame actually, to make any reference to Disney's Tarzan, given all the fine films Johnny Weismuller starred in.

Basically whenever they started being crap and/or not awesome. Shrug. I remember seeing Aladdin in NYC at a premiere, and it was basically the most amazing thing I had ever watched.. Disney movies haven't really packed such a punch for many years now. That's my personal opinion anyway. For instance, Mulan was such an amazing film for me personally (back then when it came out) because they managed to bag Lea Salonga, AGAIN (after Aladdin)! Super famous Filipina vocalist who performed in Les Miserables and Miss Saigon on Broadway.

I would never ever agree that such recent films as "Brother Bear" and "Chicken Little" are any match for the massive lineup of the 90's.

Ugh I hate this - Now I've got portions of this song stuck in my head.

I totally agree with you as well - Disney movies lost their charm when it became more about the art style than the story. A very well animated 3d project can still suck thanks to the crappy premise of the movie. It's a shame but what can you do.

if you like disney music, dig up <a href="http://theband.hiof.no/albums/stay_awake.html" target="_blank">this album</a>. Buncha great Disney songs done by a lot of awesome (and famous) musicians. People like Michael Stipe, Los Lobos, Natalie Merchant, Sinead O'Connor, Bonnie Raitt, The Roaches, Ringo Starr, James Taylor, Suzanne Vega, and Tom Waits, all on the same album, doing Disney songs, ftw.

Stay Awake is probably my favorite Disney song, and Mary Poppins in general... I read a prominent music critic once say "Let's Go Fly A Kite" is the best waltz evar =p

which version did you see? the first version (done by new world/orion) was screwy, they renamed it "warriors of the wind" and it blew because they cut out about half of the movie in an attempt to make the humans look less like power hungry ######es. a while ago (2005), disney decided to actually bring the movie over (in its entirety) and preserve the name "Kaze no tani no Naushika" (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind)

And like... there's some other things like that... Like her first name is the same in the show as in reality (not hannah, her non-alter ego).

Yuppers, Billy Ray Cyrus (sp) is her real life daddy (hick that he is).

My granddaughter saw here in concert here in Jax, not long ago. I declined the invite. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    ... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> generally good epic music, but... the lyrics are lacking.

I'll take "Spoonful of sugar makes the medicine goes down" over "He was a boy, she was a girl" any single day.

Yeah beauty and the beast had good songs. I watched a crapload of the oldschool disney movies this summer for the first time in many years and realized that when you listen to the lyrics, theyre really well written. The gaston song is also my favorite. "I use antlers in all of my decorating!" followed closely by that 'prince ali' song from aladdin There's also a ton of stuff you wouldn't understand when you were a kid.

now every single disney animated movie is cg. I guess regular animation wasn't profitable.

I also didn't like the Nausicaa movie. That may have been because I had just finished reading the manga which was far better.

That song so so bomb, but I love "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," Elton John delivers.

I saw the original in Japanese with Subtitles; horribly boring movie.
