I believe that equipment such as the HA and JP should only be dropped in small portions every game, and a limit to how many that can be dropped.
I see the wort "Proto lab", and yet these things churn out like mass-produced guns. I believe that although powerful, only a few of them can be built and given to those who need it.

I'm thinking that in NS2 they won't be prototypes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
[crazy idea]how about a true prototype lab, you pour RES into it and it gives you things after a while, things that are being field tested for the first time, 75% would be nice weapons, 25% would be crap... not knowing what you will get would add some randomness to the game, and also be a last ditch effort to that loosing game... "OMG we got teh mini nuke!"[/crazy idea]
Not sure how to work that into game play but it could be very interesting. Perhaps an extra ability after you have research everything else on it?
EDIT: After some thought, perhaps the balance between the speed / armor could be adjustable through a slider bar thing...But once you make a version, you can't make another one without a research cost again.
Also, perhaps instead of a JP/HA mix, perhaps there could be a HA with small "boosters" that can be used for a quick dash instead of flight? I.E., press a dash key that could be bound to +movement, and then a direction. (Say, R + W for a forward dash.) This could be used to evade attacks in combat, but a clever alien could predict and attack, or trick the player into wasting it altogether.
lol what if the protolab accidentally comes up with magnetic boots instead of JP <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
thats a great idea abaddon <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> More randomness to diversify gameplay ? yes please !

That would actually be kinda funny...picture it, an alien comes into a room and the marine jumps off the ceiling and knifes the alien. Irony, anyone?
As long as that everything include magnetic boots <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Everything includes micro-sized MP3 player, super weapons, super armor, and human flight. Magnetic boots only comes in the deluxe package, along with the nano-enhancements that go straight to marines.
