Announcing a new PC !
Boy was I surprise when I read my mail from Gamasutra.

Commodore is announcing a new PC !

For those that are too young to remember, Commodore used to make the Amiga, Commodore-64, Pet Commodore and the Vic-20. I used to own a C-64 and an Amiga-2000 but that was like almost 20 years ago. Back then Amiga's used to rival with IBM-PCs and in some aspects, were even better then IBM. But Commodore had a hudge problem. They were lacking big time in marketing. As effect almost no one knew about them and their sales went down even if they had a good PC back then. They eventualy went bankrupt around 1994 or so. I heard a German company baught them back 2-3 years after that but never heard anything since then.

Briefly, theire new PC is :

Processor: IntelR CoreT2 Extreme quad-core processor QX6700, 2.66 8M Cache
Motherboard: ASUSR P5N32-E nForce 680i SLI
Hard drive/Storage: 2x 150Gb 10000 Rpm Sata Raid 0, 1x 500Gb 7200 Rpm Sata
Memory:, 4 Gb Corsair Dominator twin2x2048-8500C5D, 1066MHz
I/O: 7in1 cardreader; (Front) USBx2 Firewire x 1 HeadPhone x 1 MicroPhone x 1
Optical: Philips DVDRW
Power Supply: 1000W ICE Cube PSU
Audio: CreativeR SoundBlaster X-Fi
Graphics: 2x nVidia 8800 GTX 768MB
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate

QUOTE

"The new PCs will be launched tomorrow at the CeBIT 2007 show in Germany, with four different models named Cg, Cgs, Cgx and Cxx. These are described as ranging from an entry level gaming PC to an “extreme specification model”. Each machine runs Windows Vista and can be customized from a range of high end components and peripherals."

I do not know about PCs to say if this is worth coming back or not.

So I guess they are trying to come back from the dead !

yah, it was announced a little while ago.

It sounds like it is basicly just some one bought the name commodore and started making gaming rigs with it.

Plus, with the name they get to raise the price sky-high.

Iffy PSU choice. Never heard of it. Other then that the specs are nice as long as it doesn't cost 5 grand.

"No prices have been announced yet but the range is expected to be between £1,000-£5,000 ($1,900-$9,500). "

    Custom cases too.

Okay, that estimated price is really helpful.. you'd think they could narrow it down some. That's nearly a $8000 margin.

At least they're sticking with Commodore tradition...

We can only hope it's like the last one.

hmm basically that commercial can be re-used, since the consoles still have not changed much in essence *cough keyboard cough* they've only become more powerfull <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

This is just someone buying and using their name for brand recognition. They're no more back than Atari is. :(

The cases do look really, really slick though:

    Especially the SupCom one.

I think they have potential to finally give Alienware some competition in the "I have too much money" demographic.

Back in 1985 when I bought my first PC, it was a Commodore-64 and I had paied $895 Canadian dollars back then !

Later I had bought the 256K memory expansion and the GEOS O/S that was sort of like the equivalent of the Windows 3.1 back then. I had started to learn Assembler.

Around 1998, my Amiga started to have video problems. Back then, they had specialized chips for graphics and sounds directly on the motherboard. So there weren't any cards to add. My PC was having major graphic problems and it was freezing constantly, but Commodore had gone bankrupt a few years before. I tried finding a store that would repair it but the only one I had found was charging me way more then the market value (if I had sold it then, which is about $500). The store was charging me over $800. Hardware/chips for it were extreamly hard to find. I figured that it was a lost and since the company died, it would cust even more the next time it broke. So I said to the clerk to keep it. I didn't want it anymore.

I had fun with them. Ahhhh, the memories ....

never had a commodore (Atari, NES, and 286 were my earliest gaming platforms), but played a bit at a friend's house. I'll never forget Alter Ego because it was so unique... it could totally use a remake.
