You Guys Getting Tired?

<div class="IPBDescription">Been playing religiously, getting tired.</div> I've been playing frequently since the release. It's already to the point where it's getting a little repetitive. I hope the first client patch has something new to give us a slap in the face. For me, this is what will to play a little longer:

New maps
New details in current maps
New and linked animations (there are existing animations that need to be linked)
New features
New weapons <- big maybe

You make a list of what you think will keep you playing. The game is great, don't get me wrong, but some of us do need a refresher.

I have been playing a lot too. The original wow factor has sorta come down lately. Still a great game though. I hope their is some goodies in the next client patch.

Some of the hitbox bugs fixed would be nice. And bilebomb.

when was the last time a new weapon was included in CS?

Tis like saying that you'd like Doom 3 out 5 years ago coz you got bored of #2

Not me, I been waiting on this thing for a year. Been playing like a maniac lately. But I have also been playing lots of AoM. So that probally makes it better. If you play any game enough it will burn you out on it. Take a break and come back. Works best. But this is seriously the most fun I have ever had online, so I dont see it wearing off for some time.

I think you're asking quite a bit, aren't you? The Mod only has been out for 3-4 weeks? And you're already asking for new content, i *think* the devs should be concentrating on fixing all the bugs and continue to tweak the sides...but Hell!! If they can find time to give us new stuff, then great! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

NS hasn't got repetitive on me, but I am hoping for new maps in the client patch. I'm not going to download a map just because some guy who frequents the mapping forum is downloading every new map that comes out and putting it in his server. If I don't like them, I've just wasted a fair chunk of time tracking down where I can download the map, then playing around on the server. If I do like it, I'm probably stuck playing on that one server waiting for it to come up in map rotation. Kinda sucks either way.

Having the NS team look through the 'amateur' maps and pick some good ones, or the current map designers whip up some new ones as a breath of fresh air in the client patch would kick **obscenity**.

I'm not necessarily saying all those things will have to be in the next client patch. Just a few new things to keep the interest going. There was an interview with flayra, and he said he's planning to put some stuff in that game that has never been done (to his knowlegde). So I'm being hopeful right now. I know about the deadlines, time constraints, and the manpower that goes into any kind of project. I'm not trying say "gimme gimme", I'm saying some of us "fatigued". Thats all. Now GIMME new stuff!

I too experienced this for a brief moment. But then I find myself wanting to log back in just to see how the next match will turn out. Now that we've been playing for a couple weeks, we've passed the cries of aliens being too weak and I'm guessing the cries of "aliens are too strong" will pass similarly. What I've noticed is that a number of individuals are pushing for very specific strategies for winning. Both sides have them. But both sides will eventually find a way to stop those strategies. This is the point that's been bringing me back over and over. The question "what path will each team take 'THIS' time?".

The swampland known as public servers has been irritating me like an itch that can't be scratched, but every once in a while you find a great group willing to work together and stick it out till the end.

Flayra said that there will be a client patch coming somewhere around christmas. He said something about "a christmast gift" in the interview

I sure hope its additional maps

I would gladly chose more good maps over additional weapons <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

i think that the problem is the repetitive factor of too few maps being played so often. Not criticising the developers for lack of maps as this is a new mod but with it being new people are overdosing on the game and naturally the new factor can't last forever. New maps will spice things up again nicely. A sabbatical every once will obviously help too but it's so damn addictive it's hard to tear oneself away.

I was getting kinda tired of NS, hadn't played anything else scince it came out, so I decided to go buy the new metroid game for gamecube. After a little while on that, I was dying for NS again. Try something like this, get another game to play when your a little bored.

I can't see how you could be bored already..

This is a very deep game, so I think you just need to get in to it a bit more.. Try out different things. Try commanding.. or if you play aliens all the time, try marines, and vice versa..

The only limit is your imagination... and as someone said before, you may need to take a break.. but more importantly, I think you need to try new things.

    cheerio,

Actually, so far just working as a team each game with different people has been interesting, offsetting the map repetition for me, and it seems that some maps dont get played much. Im not bored yet. I have so much fun just playing skulk, havent had a chance to even try all the other cool stuff.

My friends (CS players, mind you) have already said that NS has gotten old. While I disagree with them (mostly because they are CS players), I do find that the game is getting a little... stale lately. It's still a great game, but the effects of playing the same maps over and over again have taken their toll. I think this mod will require an above-average amount of updates to stay afloat, due to the nature of the game. It needs different play modes, like marine vs marine, objective style maps, mission mode (no respawn), maybe capture the flag, etc. It needs features, like new abilities, upgrades, weapons, evolutions, and stuff like that. And don't forget the innovative new maps.
Basically, I think the devs need to work extra hard to keep this particular mod fresh. Of course, they've done an awesome job so far, so I don't think this will be a concern.

    Keep up the good work guys <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I am really tired of playing with stupid **obscenity** newbies and flat out idiots. NS needs a votekick feature and, though somewhat unrealistic, eject gorg feature. Im tired of telling people that im going gorge in the beginning of the game and having 3 other people go gorge at the same time. But the biggest thing is still playing with stupid **obscenity** commanders and stupid **obscenity** players.

I'd have to agree with you doctorskizo, it has gotten less fun lately, I think what really started to be a drag was those games that start well and just goes to **obscenity** due to a few imcompetents.

As for the argument CS hasn't been updated for ages so that I should be bored of CS. Well I partly am...... but am partly not, because in CS, you dont have to invest almost 30 minutes to see an outcome in a round, rounds last 5 minutes in CS, so its quick and dirty, even if things went bad one round, you'd have another shot at it with in a shot time span (which I feel is the appeal of CS). To invest 30 minutes into a game and to lose can be quite disappointing especially if you know you dont have the time to go for another round and call it a night with a win. In addition to that, CS rounds can have very drastic out comes in a short span of time, so there is quite the unpredictibility factor in CS which is quite appealing. In NS, alot of the control is out of your hands, and it is very difficult for you to affect the outcome of a round sometimes like you can in CS. So to lose a round in NS due to uncontrollable factors can be very frustrating.

The reason I AM bored with CS is simply because of the hackers and partly because I've plateaud in my skill level, which leaves the one incentive of playing CS: owning n00bz. And even that gets boring after a while.

BTW, I've been playing CS since beta 6 and NS since version 1 was out. And up to a month ago b4 NS, I STILL played CS on a regular basis from beta 6.

    SUSPECT

The only thing I found tiring with NS is the fact that there are too many lamers and newbies (well, it's nto a crime but it can be a pain) annoys me... and the team balance is something i always stress against, when we still have the chance to fight back, the teams became 8 vs 4 and i asks people to join aliens please over and over, and they said it's over already... what? when we have 2 hives and 1 of them are being attacked? that's like where the number of people on a team is most crucial!
  • DemerzelDemerzel Join Date: 2002-11-18 Member: 9181Members
The variation in competency of marine commanders really affects the game. Far too often I've taken an team imbalance to switch sides or just left the server because the commander was either incompetent, wilfull or just stupid.

Whenever I start to get bored of NS, I just hop off it and play another game for a bit, or chat on irc. It relieves the stress of having your face eaten last game. Honestly though, NS isn't just point and click, and that's what I love about it.

There is something dreadfuly depressing about losing a game after you had such a good run I must say. This is why I use conference call with my 2 buddys and we never lose = ). When we do it's because of some silly commander, and we can still end it well anyway. (3 of us votekick him, one takes over and when we hit save the alamo mode we just keep on with the distress beacons, if anyones been in a game with us, you know how bloody fun it is)
Anyway, I'm sure you could aquire the same effect if you joined a clan and had voice comm. If you follow these steps and are still bored then type quit in the console, press enter, go to desktop and boot up some friendly RPG. Enjoi
