Ways to lower ping

Hi all, I'm new to NS and one thing I noticed is that NS drastically raises my ping. I have DSL and never had problems with lag or ping with other games such as counterstrike, earth's special forces, the specialist and such. So I was wondering of some things I can do to lower my ping. THX

    I dont know of anyway to lower pings so far, I would suggest that you just join servers near you.

    A idea which probably wont work but is worth a shot is to lower some of the cosmetic settings (like video settings) to get better performance, but thats really it.

    Perhaps get better internet? Cable? T3? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    300-700 in other games it averages around 100

    That's very strange. I can only guess that either your rates are somehow too high, or you are connecting to servers that are not close to you.

    Is the ping consistently high or does it spike in battles only? Or do you see all servers as having high ping in your server list?

    Well I've lowered it down to under 200 by switching my resolution. But mainly its when there are a lot of players on a server and sometimes when the action gets tense. And the server shows low ping for the games, and I set my filters for US only because it was really bad when I first started and someone informed me the server was in europe. My ideal ping goal is 100. SO anything helps I tried typing Rate 20000 in the console, didn't seem to help, i think there are few other console commands but I don't know what they are

    As far as I know, only the rate command gives you a significant problem with ping when you deal with high-transfer situations like battles. Rate 20000 should have solved that. There is also cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate, which don't contribute to ping problems when they are at default. Where are you located in the US?
