New alien flashlight

<div class="IPBDescription">the current one is...yeah</div>The current alien "flashlight" is of course amazingly useful, especially in the dark. But to be honest it looks kinda crappy. It basically just makes everything transparent and maxes its gamma. I understand that's probably the only effeicient way to do it in the HL1 engine but it definetely needs improving if its gonna go into NS2.

I saw a few posts down someone suggested giving aliens permanent infrared vision but that was countered by saying it would be too hard on the eyes. Maybe infrared could be switchable just like the alien flashlight. It also doesn't have to be like looking at normal infrared. Buildings and rooms could look the same with marines giving off a redish glow.

    it could change depending on the lighing of the map, eg if you are in a dark room , you can see marines brightly, if you are at a bright room you can see marines normally without turning it off

    Yeah if that's easily doable that would be useful. Even now the alien flashlight occationally does more harm than good if you're in a brightly lit room (like marine start usually is).

    Pastry,

    That might work but I think the light should not eluminate them completely, maybe just 10%. Enough that if you are looking carefully because you know they have sensory, you have a chance to see.

    A cool thing would be an infared sight, but with "alien colours" making it more slimy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    something like green blod when its on <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skulk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::skulk::" border="0" alt="skulk.gif" />

    This would be very cool, and shouldn't be hard to do using cubemap information.
