Strange. Does this happen in any other HL games? Is it specific to HL or HL2 games too?

Nope, just NS. Every other mod, for HL and HL2 works properly. What surprised me most is even after reinstalling half life it still refused to work properly.

Hmm that is odd. Perhaps its something to do with graphics settings / video card setup... I dont know <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Same here; the game crashes as soon as I start it, on both Direct3D and OpenGL.
I'm using an NVidia FX 5200 on Win XP SP2. Other mods work just fine, and I ran the previous NS version on it too.

I should mention that i'm using the non-steam engine (no online authentification).

    --------------------------------

LE: fmod.dll was the problem, I fixed mine by installing SvenCoop but I think you can replace the default one in the HL dir with the one from the NS dir.

Now I have another problem: NS starts and exits without displaying the menu or anything, it just changes the resolution, flashes the image background hud and then reverts the resolution back.
No error message though, just the dump (attached).

Im not sure what you mean, I only had one Fmod.dll file and it was in my NS dir. Nothing in my normal half life, not sure if thats the problem or not. Ill try installing Sven Coop and see if it has any affect. I just got my new graphics card not too long ago, and this is probably causing the problem. My, e-GeForce 7600 GS. Ill update as I procede.

I installed Sven, and to much dismay it didnt change anything. I really dont want to, but perhaps reinstalling Steam completely could solve the problem? If anyone has any other ideas beforehand, please do. Id really rather not but I love NS too much to not. Thanks in advance.

Just tried Sven Coop, it wont run either. Argh! Whats with this!! Still would love to hear a idea....will wait for a bit before I reinstall.

Then I think the problem is in your Steam install. Can you run normal HL?

All you need for the videocard is some drivers (The NVidia Detonator) and it should work just fine.

Can anyone give a solution to my problem too?

I wont pretend to know what im talking about, but maybe ill just throw out some ideas and hope one of them hits?

Perhaps its your card as well, but you seem to know what your talking about so im assuming you already checked that out. Does it happen with any other games? Or just NS.

BTW Thanks for that file, im gonna go check it out now.

Other games (including NS 3.1) work just fine.

Note: I'm using the non-steam engine; the hybrid version that has green menus like steam but doesn't actually connect to the steam servers.

We just play like that in a LAN.

Unusual...Perhaps something in the new patch doesnt like your graphics card? Unlikely but evenstill, ive seen it happen before. You've tried reinstalling NS / Half life, and all that Jazz? If your not using steam im not sure why that would affect the in-game menus not appearing properly so I dont know how that could be the problem.

BTW Could you give me a link to the nVidia Detonator Driver? Ive looked for it on their site but I cant seem to find it >.< It would be much appreciated! BTW None of my half life games work...for half life one that is...including the game itself. I dont know why, but it doesnt even show up in my add/remove programs. Not sure why or if that matters or not.

Are you using the default config file or have you modified it?
  • Kombin3Kombin3 Join Date: 2007-03-07 Member: 60281Members
Default. Im going to reinstall steam now, hopefully it MIGHT do something that will help. Will update later.

I HAVE THIS PROBLEM ALL THE TIME! This happens when NS doesn't shut down properly, obviosly deleting some files. When you download NS 3.2.0, KEEP IT ON YOUR COMPUTER. When this issue happens, re-install NS, but say "no" on overwriting your config... this way you can keep your settings and have NS 3.2.0 work!!!

bye yall... see ya in game!

Backup your cl_dlls\client.dll file and use this instead: <a href="http://www.rogepost.com/n/6090363793" target="_blank">http://www.rogepost.com/n/6090363793</a>
It's the client.dll from 3.1; NS starts with it on.

    Give feedback; can you connect to any servers and stuff? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skulk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::skulk::" border="0" alt="skulk.gif" />

Make sure you have the latest video card drivers. I had a set once that did the exact same thing.
