<div class="IPBDescription">about upgrade chambers.</div> Today I was playing on a server with two hives when all the sudden my team started yelling to me about not building movement . I told them we only have 2 hives so I couldnt build it... and then they said "because you built sensory"
it took me awhile to get, next game after we died they said to build movement so they can prove their point, so I did.. and then I couldnt build defense!
It doesnt say it in the manual and I always figured people talking about the order of chambers just meant like when you build defense and then offense in front... I had no clue it was one upgrade per hive.
I figured this
1 hive - defense
2 - sensory
3 - movement
why? well when I first played gorge Ithere were defense up and I tried to make sensory, it told me I needed 2 hive's, so once I got 2 I built them and when I tried movement it said I need 3. So I thought it had to go in this order.
I feel so stupid for not knowing this, after maybe 35 games! I guess I figured we had the third hive once whenever we had movement upgrades aviable

That works, it's kind of funny how mad they got before though.. all screaming at me about it when they couldn't even destroy the structures at the last hive....

During my first game, I was playing as a marine, wandering around the marine start, and wondering what to do. The commander created an armory right in front of me, and I had no idea what to do with it and no way to ask. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Another side effect of this is if you get two-three hives and loose one, you lose the ability to build the chamber you chose at that level.

Each hive lets you build _one _type of chamber, your choice. So, lets say you start the game. You have a hive, with an _empty spot next to it on the display. Trust me, its there, go look at the screen.
Once you build a chamber, that first hive now has a little chamber icon next to it, of the type you built. Lets say you built a def chamber first (radical, I know, go with it for the sake of the argument) now there is a def chamber icon next to the first hive on the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Now, if the marines kill that hive, you _lose the ability to build _that _type of chamber. So, in this case, even if you have hives 2 and 3, if you lost the first hive, you can't build def chambers.
Once you rebuild the hive, you can again choose a chamber to make. I've been in games where we never got the 3rd hive, but had all three chamber types up, all the upgrades available. We got hive two, built sensory, lost hive two, took it back, built the hive again and then built movement chambers.
anyway, he's just making light of the fact that it's not something he knew, from the sound of his post he gets it now, we dont need another explination of how it works. and all you are doing is restating what people in this thread before you have stated, for the sake of keeping these posts short lets just point him to the gorge guides or something like that, the new player forums are also full of good info zoda, as well as the stickies on the particular class you are trying to play. (im not trying to be scathing or rude here, so dont take it that way)
Dont worry about not knowing things like that. Everyone is new at some point and you learn as you go. As more experienced players, it is our responsiblitiy to look out for the guy who doesnt know whats going on and show them how to play the game so that the community as a whole flourishes and doesnt end up like CS or something like that! So for all you vets out there, try not to get angry when a new player does something like that, if somebody had explained it to him when it happened, instead of yelling at him and getting angry, it would have been a much better solution than finding it out on his own.
