Indeed. I have an idea for a goth themed birthday party where everyone must arrive clad in black and we then celebrate that I am one year closer to release from this hellish existence. Then I'll play punk rock just to break the theme. But eh, maybe I'll do that next year.
Man, I'm a quarter of a century old... Where'd I put my cane?
I made something new. Instead of the usual <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> bacon or <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> burger, I give you the awesome <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> <b>POT PIE!</b>

I think you only have to pay royalties if you play the song commercially. You know, like how you're allowed to watch Star Wars at home, but if you want to show it in a theater you have to clear it with 20th Century Fox first. Oh wait, you wouldn't know, because you've never seen Star Wars. Oh well.

Just because you own a copy of star wars for personal viewing, it doesn't give you the right to invite your friends over and watch it with them. ;P

Without a doubt. "You are not licensed to view this media! Listener's License revoked!" ;o
as far as i'm aware the 'record' button is illegal. But what really annoys the crap outta me is when the FACT (federation against copyright theft) ad's come on. Their tag is like 'you wouldn't steal a car'. But... copying stuff doesn't derive the original owner of his possession! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a great fan of copied stuff (i consider any CD I have copied as an extended form of promotional CD. If I don't like it I stop listening. If I do, I buy the album).
I wonder what would it be like if music was sold like fine art. or art like music. It all gets a bit odd, but you can begin to recognise the peculiar codes of conduct in some industries when you juxtapose them on others.

Actually, I think you'll find that I know Star Wars extremely well. In fact, here is me and ol' George, who is my best friend ever. He is laughing at one of my numerous in-depth and hilarious observations of the obscure literature of the Star Wars universe.

Exactly. Copying is much more like sharing than stealing. What they mean is "Lost Profit" is stealing from them, even though it doesn't come out that way.
What's also amusing yet at the same time not amusing is that most people would never buy the software/movies/music that are seen in the shops regardless. "Lost Profit" = Stealing doesn't make all that much sense to me either. It's not like you're reaching into the future and grabbing their dollars off them. Nor is lost profit measurable.
Also, I along with many, many others wouldn't be buying any music if it weren't for piracy, simply because we would never hear the music, apart from the music played on the radio and TV. They would essentially shooting themselves in the foot over this if they had the means to destroy piracy. Fortunately they will never ever be able to <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />
