Nj Duo. I would like to skin it (like always) when you release it. I always didn't really like the look of the original welder, it looked too strange for me.

Nice model! Oh, and heads up, the welder isn't actually a "welder." They just call it that.

yeah, its actually a very short ranged flame thrower.
• blue2kblue2k Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4025Members
hl engine cannot support glass, condition zero on the other hand has coded transparency apparently so that means 24 bit textures with alpha channel goodness.
• BiTMAPBiTMAP Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7685Members
you can however put some parts of the model more transparent, but i'm not sure how... and no fadeing...

Model Restrictions are only for some servers that use mp_consistency 1, not all servers will use it.

Hmmm . . . I'd written this whole little thing up on your fantastic quote, but I've decided to ditch it and just take you with an enormous grain of salt. Yeah, that's probably for the best.

good point bathroommonkey, but you cannot account for everyones tastes. for example i like ns the way it is, but i would like to see alien style models as a replacement pack for the originals. this merely provides a new look to an already sweet mod. the default models have not grown utterly tiresome for me yet, but i do like to create new content for any mod i enjoy playing. ns has excellent gameplay but the default models although really quite inventive will eventually seem blase to the experienced gamer. now i understand your reluctance to accept ripped media into ns, this is perfectly understandable, and as youve already stated new media is more to your liking. but you have to admit the aliens series does have that "utter coolness" and this is probably why so many people are interested in making ns look a bit like that movie world. i personally am not one of those people who would try and turn ns into avp2, i like ns as it is, but i would also like to see a few replacement packs available for people that are influenced by all kinds of sci-fi media. right now the theme seems to be aliens, but ive also noticed some starcraft stuff too, what will be next? farscape stuff? pitch black (the movie) type aliens? wing comander? space above and beyond? starship troopers? the list is practically endless, so many cool sci fi based influences to get the creative juices flowing.

i dont think it will be long before totally orginal creations are being made for ns too. ive seen some excellent concepts already for replacement aliens and marines, and im probably not the only modeller to do so. i know you feel the ns back story has been somewhat coopted with these types of models being made, but i dont think anybody is fooling themselves if they think there playing avp2, that simply isnt the case at all i think. people just want cool (different) content than the original creations. eventually even the custom models will become tiresome and people may even revert back to the original creations because once again they will become "fresh".

Damn. Pulled my post too late-- Blue's post references it.

Well, I pulled it because I didn't want it to be taken incorrectly by the NS modeling community-- there seems to be a fair number of people in it who think that the dev team simply wants to silence them.

Anyhow, here's the post:

Model consistency is a server setting, like any other mod. Off by default, because of how much complaining went on, I'd guess. If it's off on a server, that means that the admin running it explicitly doesn't want it.

So, Duo, let's see--

On the one hand, we have you-- who cried that he would completely stop playing NS if he couldn't play with his ripped pulse rifle. Oh yeah, you're a keeper, all right. We should definitely bend over backwards for you.

Now, on the other hand, we have server admins, who dedicate time, energy, and their own personal resources towards growing NS. We also have the leagues, who need some sort of model enforcement in place in order to take us seriously. But, as Duo seems to think, we should definitely not allow these guys any sort of choice in the matter. He needs his pulse rifle, after all!

Dumb-job? Hardly. Run your own Damn server, if it's that much of a problem. Or, better yet-- just go play AVP or AVP 2.

Now, custom modelers-- I have no argument or problem with you guys. I want to see people getting so excited over this game that they design, experiment, and try to put their own spin on the NS TSA tech and kharaa lifeforms. People like Wattz (currently designing his own TSA weapons) are what will truly allow this forum to flourish.

I'm sorry, but so much energy was put into creating the NS universe backstory that it's somewhat disappointing to see it immediately co-opted and reduced to a vehicle for the Aliens characters and weapons. But you then have the balls to chastise the team for not completely enabling your conversions, even though that might come at the cost of the game's league and server livelihood? Get a **obscenity** clue.

End post.

Flame away, but I hope some people see my point.

However, in the end, I realized that his stupid post didn't really merit this much of a response. As I said in my edit, all it needed was a huge grain of salt.

lol sorry dood, if i had a preconitive ability i wouldnt have referenced your post . but i do understand the ns teams outlook on this, they worked so hard for such a long time to produce this mod, and unleash it on the unwashed masses. and the first thing we ungrateful guttersnipes do is reedit it this must really rile the orginal modellers and such. but not to worry this is merely an addition to any popular mod, namely the editing community. we hardly wait for a mod to be released now before we start editing things, its not like the old days of hl when editing was largely still a mystery handed on master to apprentice type thing. thats why in the begging not only was there light but also very few models the ns team should view it as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery rather than "hit teh deck, we b hijacking dis mod"

I agree. My piece doesn't really belong here-- I probably should have addressed it in its own post.

It was just frustrating that after things were set up the way the modeling community requested (with the default for consistency being off), we still get posts that tell us we're 'dumb'.

All across the forums, it seems that we're in sort of a "Damned if we do, Damned if we don't" rut.

Hey monkey boy I dont like model consitency but as long as there is an option, i dont have a problem with it. But I do like to play with my "ripped" avp2 pulse rifle because I dont like the lmg all that much as I love the pulse rifle. And because I play with dun's colonial marine reskin doesnt mean that I dont like the ns universe . Thats why I like the reskin better than some colonial marine model because I like to have the best of both worlds! Another thing I dont like is the skulk, why? Because It would never be able to run with those weird feet. So I use the alien runner replacement model. Another thing that should be fixed woud be the Onos! Why would such a large aliens specis be runing around on a cramped space station ???Maybe make something inbetween the fade and onos, as well as making the onos smaller!
In any circumstance I don't and wont think of you as stupid or "dumb"... I will play your mod maybe not as happy or on my favorite server but I will play
