How much harder is 3ds max than ms3d. Ive been using ms3d for years too fearful to move to 3ds max (which I blew a crap load of money on a while ago, never used it, and now spent another 700 bucks on the upgrade) because it will eb a lot difficult to relearn everything. Those who use it, how hard is it to get the hang of the program after using ms3d for mad long?

Theres stacks of tutorials and help that come with the program. If its mainly modeling your interested in, then you should have bought something cheaper i.e. Silo. But seeing as you already got it, then look at places like 3dbuzz.com were they have some free vtms, that explain and GUI and layout and such.
Id say milkshapes more of a compile and converting tool, than a modeler.

Be sure to also download the tuturials and help files as they are they are seperate downloads.
GMAX is a free scaled down version of 3d max 4.1
It's a .7z for some reason though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
Nice tutorial, but it didnt teach me anything I didnt learn in ms3d.... Can anyone point me in the right direction in like very basic video tutorials on lets say character modeling.

Gmax is still better then most free 3d software if not all of them. Not everyone has money to buy 3d max. I've been a GMAX forum moderator for close to 5 years and after 3000 posts at my account, I still say it is worth to try. Besides, it gives you the basic 3d max knowledge and trainging until you have the money for it. You still can do lots of stuffs with it. THe only thing I am not happy with it is the lack of export/import plugins but there are workarounds.
NOw that this is said, lets not start a debate on it. It would be a waste of time for whomever posted the original thread.
If you don't do characters, imo there isn't much point using anything above 6.

It's not harder as such, but it <i>is</i> far more complex and sophisticated.
The good news is that if your ambitions only extend to modelling and skinning then you''d only need to learn about 10% of the program, same applies to any of the high end programs.
Once you've seen some of the modelling tools and options available in the more sophisticated programs you won't want to go back to MS3D other than maybe for compiling or file conversions, trust me on this. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
