Virtual Body

<div class="IPBDescription">like in Dark Messiah</div>Ok so ive stolen this from dark messiah, but i really think it helps keep the player immersed when they can see their own body when they look around,

Like when you get tangled in web you would see your arms untangle or cut the web off with a knife and or wave your weapon around for the duration you are stunned.

WHen you are a big alien or in heavy armour u'd would really feel like a tank when you can see your body - this could also be used to see how damaged your armour or body is.

Small aliens would feel very sneak and cloakers would have a real indicator of how cloaked you are, which could put an end to some arguements <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Yes it can add realism. I Agree.

I support this idea. But I think it is only possible for marines and fades.

well actually i have never been able to figure out why the 'thirdperson' command that is built into the half life engine doesn't work for NS

I too agree on this idea, adds just that little bit of extra relism into the game. And it is true that it would only work on rines and fades. I'm sick off seeing plain floor right below me.

I definitely support this idea. It works nicely with Halo among others. Obviously this doesnt do much for skulks and so forth but i think they will probably have their own little "effects".

So, i'll have feet like everyone else? :3
I kinda just.. float and make footsteppy noises.

I really like this idea, would make players more immersed into the game.

well i dont know about ns2 but it would kinda ruin the whole balancing factor for ns now wouldnt it? If your view isnt obstructed by your teeth as a skulk it would be easy to chump at marines and to know whats behind a corner would be possible even with no motion tracking as you could position your camera so you could see whats behind corner number 1. Also other similar balancing factor as muzzel flashes, sounds would be more distant for you so as you walk on plain metal floor so you could hear better if aliens come and wouldnt be disturbed by your own sounds that much.

is "beeing able to watch around corners" enough of an argument for you? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Wait, third person? Eb no like third person. I thought we were talking like, with a marine in first person, look down, you see your feet, etc.
  • MarshalTTMarshalTT Join Date: 2005-01-08 Member: 33799Members
    Scrap.

We talk about virtual body in first person. You look down and you see your body. Like in Dark Messiah.

We dont want 3. person mode... it would be a stupid thing...
  • schkorpioschkorpio I can mspaint Join Date: 2003-05-23 Member: 16635Members
yes we are talking 1st person, not 3rd.

actually a 3rd person view for skulks might be fun, so what if they can see around corners, you can usually hear that far with a pair of headphones anyway, plus making it easier to chomp as you can tell how far you are from your target better. of course 3rd person view introduces all new camera difficulties. so nevermind lol

good idea. I especially like the Heavy Armor Part. Having a lot of steel around the body gives me this nice warm feeling <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    Nooooo! No No NO NO!

No 3rd person in NS apart from the com.

    Ruins the atmosphere.

    this isnt about 3rd person!
    Try this:

look to the left, look to the right, look down.

what do you see? left arm and shoulder, right arm and shoulder, torso legs and feet.

    this doesnt mean 3rd person!

Dead is Dead right? You ever see a dead person checking it out after he/she met her final demise? OR.............you ever hear of it happening? no angelic, bright light tunnel crap either............'yeah, he sat up.......looked around........and perspired a second time after he was dead the first time.'

I've always wanted to be able to look down and see my own body. Besides immersion, it's very practical.
Have you ever been a marine trying to get to the very edge of a high ledge for a better shot, and then fall because you don't know where your feet are?

Sadly, I don't think the source engine natively supports this, since you could not see your feet in HL2.

    I dont really understand what you mean with this post <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
If this is supposed to be an answer for my previous post...im talking about looking around as long as you are alive. Not dead.

Darrk Messiah support virtual body + Dark Messiah is using the source engine. = Source can support virtual body.

Personally I don't think it would be a good idea. It's nice in Dark Messiah because it's single player, but I think it would annoy a lot of players, or at least it would annoy me... at least you didn't suggest headbob *shudder*

So long as the marines don't have a virtual crotch like Gordon does in GMod 10 why not?

This would best come to use with heavies though being so tall it should make it easier to kill a skulk attatched to you!

This can also make it increadbly awesome when skulks latch on to marines and if the skulk is on their back then the marine cant turn to get it off <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    or if they latch to the front then they can <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
