That certainly doesn't mean they're not out there. I have heard many pre-pubescent lads playing NS.

    Aiming as a marine?

    Fade, lerk, skulking?

If you take philosophy, it's not the younger people that have the problem; it's you allowing yourself to be bothered by it. And there's a mute button. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

I have no idea what you're talking about. Please point out where I claimed to be bothered by younger gamers. I don't recall that part.

And while NS has twitch elements, it also has plenty of non-twitch elements, far more than many other, more pure action-oriented games have.

It's called <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labeling_theory" target="_blank">Labeling Theory</a>. It's just one theory in a sea of them. I don't completely buy into this particular one as much as some of the others. But for some cases, it's true.

We treat them the way we do because we believe they are something they have yet to become.

That something is their label, or title.

To be honest I sometimes think the 'annoying kids' are made by the people who hate them so much.

I remember this young kid being on the alien team and most of the rest of the team treating him rather badly or with disrespect the lil one had done nothing to really deserve.
<b>I was pretty nice to him and taught him the ropes and he seemed fairly glad and polite... then he made a simple mistake that unfortunately foiled a rush our team was about to do and they all started screaming at him.</b>

Despite me trying to keep things on a reign it got too much and the kid left but just before he did he sounded a lot like the kind of kids we all hate to see.
If you treat people a certain way they usually end up acting a certain way.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Actually, I see that happen to newbs all the time, whether they're kids or not.

Another thing about kids being 'immature', I think it's not that they're just 'immature', just in a *kiddy and *ignorant way.

@DrSuredeath, I've seen a situation like that, except the kid would be replaced by someone older.

Now, the guy was "commanding" the alien team, in helpful, but mostly a reminding way. For example, after we managed to defend the hive, he'd tell us where we should go next and what should we attack.

Well, he did tell us obvious things, and talked quite a bit, but I didn't mind it. One person was annoyed, and told him to shut up, then it became a rather dramatic argument, shouting, and insulting over the mic.

The person annoyed could have just muted him, and the guy commanding the alien team could have muted the other guy as well. I'd say the same thing(muting each other) could have happen with the kid and the annoyed guy you told of us DrSuredeath.

The thing is, we're just used(and prefer) to the more dramatic or things that actually *make sense type of people, insults, arguments, rants, whines, etc.

*Kids on the internet when arguing with other people may make insults or remarks that make no sense, such as the "I bet your girlfriend" statement you told of us, DrSuredeath. While older tend to make more clearer and give reason for certain insults and etc.

<b>Summary:</b> Whether people are only 10 or 12 years, 20 years, or have 40 years, they still can be immature and act like idiots at times. And not all kids on the internet are the ones we all hear(mic) and hate.

There are kids who are passive and don't type or talk much, or are more mature than other kids. Obviously, it's harder to notice them since they "blend" in with the older group.

On the general subject though, look at the example of maturity in this thread. That's one thing that's always impressed me about this community over the vast wasteland of other gaming communities. Take many other forums and give them this thread topic, and the general reply would be along the lines of "LOL OLD PEOPLE R OLD LOL"

Whereas the NS community turns it into a reasoned discussion of general maturity in-game and how interactions with other players can influence that. Group hug, everyone.

I for one consider myself as almost having grown up here on these boards. When I first showed up I was only 16 (maybe even 15, I can't remember it seems so long ago) but now I'm at the ripe old age of 20 and when I go back to some of the posts I made when I first showed up here, I cringe at how young and dumb I was. Honestly, how could any of you guys stand me back in those days?

I do consider myself lucky to have found this place on the internet though which is a really astonishingly mature place to be. Being here kept me out of bad habits like poor spelling and grammar and still gave me the chance to giggle at how much more wrinkled everyone else is than me.

That raises another issue, why are parents still buying kids mature games? It says 17+ seriously I don't want to take orders from a commander whose balls haven't dropped yet. Specially them buggers that start playing music thru their mic.

Anyways, I'm two months from twenty-two. I think I started playing in uhm.... somewhere bouts four or five years ago, damn I didn't think it was that long ago.

I play NS to avoid the following.

Generally, most parents, especially in the U.S., aren't really good parents.

They're lazy parents, when their kids whine/cry/yell, they give them stuff because they're too lazy to just wait a few hours for the kid to be tired and stop whining/crying/yelling(<i>when this does happen, they probably won't whine for a year or two</i>).

Kid: "Buy me counter-strike now, or I'll throw stuff"

    Parent: No

    *Kid whines and throws stuff*

    *10 seconds later*

Parent: Okay, get into the car.

    Kid: (Ha, this always works).

There should be a website where you can safely upload your Driver's license or SS or something to get a serial number that verifies you are 17+ Then you use this number to access 'safe zones'

    I'd pay the upkeep.

If I'm putting my social security # or Driver's License on it, then... no thanks. I'm for having the government operate it.

Uhh, thanks for the offer though.

Mind you if our government was more inclined towards public works via the internet, rather than just support for corporate internet usage, this sort of small convenience could easily be a reality. Think about it. A site where you can register yourself using your social and DL if you have it, thus having an active database to who you really are, then you just place your usernames and emails in there as a record, and link back to it. Sites that want safe enviornments for younger audiences, and sites that want mature enviornments for intelligent audiences can both require that some sort of ID Key from this Government operated Database be provided.

Hell it could cure all the 'internet predation' cases, if only it could be implimented. But like all my ideas, it's half-###### and I have no chance in hell in making a case for it.

It is a good idea to get the number when your child is born. You can apply for a Social Security number for your baby when you apply for your baby’s birth certificate. They will mail the Social Security card to you.

You know even if there were licenses that were required to play online games of age rating (M rated games require a 17+ year old license), kids could still just bother their parents to create a license or enter whatever info is needed to play "x" game for online.

I mean if parents bought their kids T and M rated games, they probably will register or use their credit card, or whatever for things the kids want.

On another note, I hate these types of people who know how to read but do not know what the words and sentences actually mean - <a href="http://nsarmslab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7349&st=15" target="_blank">The poster at the top of the second page</a> , <a href="http://forums.guns4back2school.com/index.php?showtopic=12913" target="_blank">First post by someone named Muffins</a>.

If you're too lazy to view those links, here is a summary of what each poster said:

First link - The guy thought that aliens were getting buffed by quite a bit, and marines didn't get anything in the 3.2 update. In reality, it is aliens who are getting nerfed, with a few changes for better or worse.

Second link - The guy was angry and disappointed because NS2 will be on HL2, he wanted it to be on another engine. He heard that NS2 will be on HL2 from the interview(linked in that link) which Flayra clearly stated that they're using HL2 since they know the HL engine in and out and Valve is making a deal with them.
