thermovision, infested marines & transportable structures

<div class="IPBDescription">some brainstorm idea's</div>these idea's just popped up my mind and i wanted to share them:

1. movable structures.

imagine a hive lockdown, with a TF , several turrets and a PG. near the hive is a marine RT. The aliens attack the hive and the PG goes down. Now the comm sells everything to save as much res as possible. But wouldn't it be cool if the comm could make the structures transportable. So marines could carry the RT in the hive to another node. making something transportable could be simular to selling, only faster, and also rebuilding it will go faster. The strategy would change a bit from running around in circles trying to save a hivelockdown to pull out and defend the marines transporting useable structures and transport the front out of the hive. Now the biggest problem is : how do you transport structures, an RT is way to big for certain area's. Well, we all know the gravity gun from HL2. A simular weapon could be a solution. When the comm presses the "make transportable" button, it takes a few sec and then the RT just falls apart in 5 pieces of debris. The marines take their welder and 5 marines all carry 1 piece to a node and rebuild it.

The structures in NS are unique, and certainly on HL1 engine, but still they are too static. 1 thing is for sure, the source engine as got alot of opportinities to add more realistic gameplay. I always hate it when an onos has to jump over a turretfarm instead of just running and ramming them all down.



2. thermovision
This could be used by alien and/or marines. But it will be more realistic with marines.
For start, i just think thermovision is ubercool, it just looks great & futuristic.
Now on NS i sometimes get frustrated when silence & SC's become useless when marines have Motion tracking.
Motion tracking is an inbuilt wall hack and it happens often a marine is just waiting for me in a dark corner.
Imagine motion tracking would be replaced by thermovision. The blue circle would be replaced by glowing colorfull images. So you would also be able to see what you are looking at, skulk or onos will have different sizes.
2nd thought about this: If aliens would really exist and infest a spacestation they would probably reach for the most warm places. So when a marine enters a hive near a furnace his thermovision would become useless cause the whole area is warm.
3rd though about thermovision: There are alot of pipes around the maps, if skulks would be able to bite the pipes so hot steam would burst out and fill the corridor wth hot air they would have a good place to hide & lurk. Thermovision would be useless in these corridors.
A skulk that runs around without seeking hot places would be a sitting duck to marines.

After marines develop thermovision (motion tracking) some alien abbilities like silence would still be usefull in hot areas. The aliens would be forced to stay near this hot area's and run from one to another to hide. (Like in real life any lifeform would do in a static unfamiliar environment)


3. infested marines
imagine a marine that wanders of alone without following orders or staying with a group. He should be punished! that's tupid, extra kills, extra res for aliens! But he shouldn't be punished by marines, but aliens. how? parasite or heal-spray him to death: then the body is still intact and a skulk can infest his body and use it as a walking timebomb to bring the body of the marine back to the place where it should be, near his platoon.
BOOOOOOM. Off course, a human body isn't that exlposive, so from a realistic point of view it would be a mix of a small xenocide and webs. all marines get minor damage and get stuck for a few sec. If skulks follow the infested body and wait until after the explosion they can easily eat all marines.
The marine in the infested body does not respawn until the explosion, maybe there should be a timelimit to this but it will sure discourage people to wander off alone.

    Lets take this bit by bit.

    The movable structures idea wont work. Its is just way too inconvenient. It require a whole load of teamwork to just move one structure. Plus, it would mean that there must be more than one marine present to move structures. So if you want to pull out of a hive with the strutcutres, it is no easy task. People killing and getting killed. Then you say use the gravity gun. This means more work for the devs who have to reconstruct another weapon. Finally, u say the marines need welders to put the structures back aain. This is added cost to give out welders. And what if u just want to recycle but not relocate the building? The main problem is that it is way too inconvenient for people to even use it.

    On thermovision. For MT, once u have it, it is forever on and just indicated by blue circles. But if u get thermo, would it be forever on? If you have to turn it on and off, itd be more troublesome than MT. if it is forever on, would it mean that your vision is perpetually in shades of weird colour? would not look too nice. If skulks bite loads of pipes to release heat, means thermo would be quite useless. Plus, this would take a whole lot of coding and redoing many maps. I think it would be quite a useless ability since aliens can easily overcome it by biting pipes.

    Infested marine. Too overpowered. One infested marine can basically screw a whole bunch of marines. This has been suggested before and turned down many times.

    All ideas above would all seriously nerf the rines dramatically. So i say no to all. and read the FAQ. one idea per thread.

    it would allow aliens to see a path of a marine that passed
    as time goes by the path fades

    not really sure what upgrades the aliens would get for this tho

    this used to be pheromones. dont know how u spell it. it was pretty useless and they replaced it with focus.
