    It was, because that's the default or something. And you know what? nobody was whining about pages looking out of whack or the forums loading slower...it was nice. You could have more detailed avatars without them looking squashed or horrible. But noooo...they had to put it back.

    The avatar size limit has been 64x64 since 2002. Just because the forum software upgrade <i>temporarily</i> returned the software settings to the default of 90x90 did not change the rule.

    Besideswhich. The only reason we have avatars in the first place is so that people can visibly identify a post as belonging to an individual member. There's no need for a huge, detailed image there, and most can be conveyed aptly with a bit of creativity (or simply resizing down) in a 64x64 space, with a whole 22KB... same as for a (much larger) sig image. Though that may be reduced in the future.. after all, that's quite a lot of space for an avatar.

    We've had people with that kind of avatar in the past, BM. They're usually issued a warning. If they persist, they get a week to think it over. Fortunately we haven't had to make a usergroup without the right to have avatars. Yet.
