Waypoint Paths.

I forget which level it is but in one of the ready rooms it has those red paths on the ground leading into race selection. It would be really cool if you get those when the commander sets a waypoint somewhere. Or for aliens they could "select" a circle and get a path to it, possibly by using the use key when the cursor is on it.

I know its not needed, i know most of the maps by now but i think it would be cool. Actually i would find them more useful as a commander so my marines dont take a wrong path and die.

    ah yes...

i'm sure the server CPUs will gladly lift the burden of pathfinding from newbies' shoulders <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well, setting entire "waypaths" would probably be a bit taxing on your average commander, don't you think. And if they just appeared automatically, it still may not be the best way to get there.

I have a similar idea about the aliens though. I alway thought it would be useful if every alien could set their own waypoint for other players to see...eh, now that I think about it, maybe not that useful at all. Oh well, it was a thought.

While this would be good in Help mode, it would be incredibly taxing on the CPU I think. So I doubt it. If you want to learn a map, load up a single player game, and explore. Its how I learned. Hell, I wanted to do that just to drool at the mapping, let alone learn the layout.

Have your commander set waypoints in the path he wants you to go. He puts a waypoint at an intersection and when you get there, he puts another waypoint to where he wants you to go until you get there.

yeah it all sounds good and blah blah but i mean. walking around. not knowing where you are emant to be going etc is part of the fun. especially when walking accidentally into an enemy base.
I think this idea would take away the fun factor as well as use alotta CPU power.

Definately. Getting into a firefight with aliens and you getting seperated from your team, then wandering into an alien outpost.. ohhh that's fun.

Hrm a waypoint guidance system wouldnt have to be server side at all, you can just take the co-ords of the WP at present then locally at each machine calculate the guidance system.
