You CAN watch your DivX library on your 360 without Media Center edition. On the 360, if you try to stream from your PC, it asks you to download something(they specify the site on the 360), download it, get it going, and tahdah: Instant music/movie fun.

It asks you to download Windows Media Connect ( now deprecated by Media Player 11 ) which allows you to stream music and photos. Windows MCE only does mpeg2 and wmv.

If you have concrete information to the contrary, I'm really interested to hear, as I've tried and failed on two occasions to stream to the 360. With XP you can't stream video at all.

I'm putting my money on the open standards sony have embraced for the PS3. Indie games development is going to thrive on the platform. In a world of Microsoft like consoles, modding is history. In a world of PS3 like consoles, modding will be nourished. UT2K7 SDK for PS3 using a linux PC as a devkit. Hawt.

Of course, we still have to see just how well it all works out, but so far it is looking very promising. It didn't really help the Dreamcast too much, but I would argue that the dreamcast was inferior to the PS2 anyway. If sony can build a strong initial gaming community then they will succeed in the long run.

360 is too closed and already outdated.

Wii is a novelty that will quickly wear off. If you enjoyed any of the previous nintendo consoles since the SNES, then you'll probably like Wii, but thankfully there aren't enough of you to make Wii the dominant platform.

I heard you play games on games consoles, not do exactly what you have a PC for. Maybe I'm just not technophilic enough.
And since none of the other consoles will have Halo 3, Halo Wars or Dead Rising, I will be buying a 360. Also to play UT2k7 and Gears of War.

I don't know. The WCC thing worked fine for me. I just installed it, followed the rest of the instructions, and wammo, it worked.

I have never felt the desire to own a console. I am almost convinced that i might this generation though.

I am some what excited about the wii, but i agree with those who say that i will rapidly become bored with its Hijinks.
On second thought that game looks rather hilarious particularly as it relates to Milking cows. apparently that depicts a 4 person multi player game controlled by rapidly moving the controller in a milking motion... hoooray!

However, the Playstation seems like a better console, first it has all its cell goodness, second it has a linux release waiting for it, and thirdly it seems like I won't have to sell my soul to use it as god intended me to (with a keyboard), or to output at a reasonable resolution, or to play old games. Admittedly, I don't own any console games, BUT I have a buddy who keeps carrying around his PS2 trying to get me to kill colossuses or face his fury as nightmare.

Also, as a guy who owns a large number of shiny black electronics, keeping finger prints off my current equipment really isn't hard, because, honestly, I don't carry that crap around all the time. Yes, if i eat, for example, fried chicken and then rub my PC case it is *gasp* covered in grease. Generally, i manage to not get huge finger prints everywhere, and when i do, listen up, i wipe them off! I would like to congratulate the guy whose comment I read on kotaku, whose post I don't care to find, that criticized Sony for not developing a fingerprint resistant but shiny metal for inspring that little bit. You sir, will never cease to amaze me.

Well you must be quite godly, because I know that even with clean hands, I can't keep fingerprints off anything with a glossy finish. Unless wearing gloves, I am sure to put fingerprints on my piano, on my ipod, a mirror, or the data-side of a CD if I touch them.
It's not that I live in grease, it's that the human body secretes oil and even if I wash my hands (with soap, naturally) and touch some glossy surface right after, I'm still going to make a very noticeable fingerprint. I just tested this a minute ago.

Honestly, as a Nintendo fanboy at heart, the Wii will go in my collection. (Zelda: Twilight Princess is pretty much a must have. May as well get the Wii version right?)

I trust Nintendo to release a reliable product right from the launch. My SNES still runs perfectly. My N64 worked great last week (control stick was pretty loose, but functional), and the same for my cube. My bro's PS2, first generation, does not read discs anymore (despite a few attempts I've made to fix the problem.) It's suffered from corrupted data on the memory cards on a few occaisions (which absolutely sucks.) The taste in my mouth at losing my precious GT4 data including liscences? Sour.

A friend bought a 360 at launch. A week later he was sending the power supply to microsoft. (Mind you, they were very prompt and good about replacing it.) Glad I didn't get one.

But I'm liable to get one of the "other boxes" too. I mean, Gran Turismo is PS3 exclusive, and I've yet to find a racing game that compares (personal opinion.) Though I would miss the rumble, I suspect. Really wish they would have put some real time into a new controller. Never was a fan of the dual shock after having used Nintendo's controllers and even the 360 controller. But again, that's just me.

Grand Theft Auto? I hear it might be no longer a sony exclusive? Boy... that'd pull me toward the 360 camp for my second next gen console.

But really, no PS3 launch games interest me. That Test Drive unlimited on the 360 interests me... if only for the whole "driving around the island thing". Theres a few other games too, no must haves that I've seen yet.

My bank account is pretty much doomed.

The last three installments were released for PC too, although with delays.

I must agree - they're using a freaking controller design that's TEN YEARS OLD. Am I the only one that didn't mind the boomberang?

Sony said, "HEY! PEOPLE HAVE CRITICISM! CHANGE THE CONTROLLER BACK BEFORE WE DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!" (And I want a PS3! Lawl.)

Back in 1997 Wildcat (i think) released a six-axis motion sensing controller for the PS1 WITH RUMBLE. *WITH RUBMLE*

Explain yourselves Sony, ya lazy sods.

Remember when Immersion sued Sony and Microsoft for their rumbling controllers? Microsoft settled out of court and lived happily ever after. Sony however, would rather save the money.

I don't see myself ever buying a PS3 simply due to the cost. My high-end graphics fix comes from my computer.

    For stuff my computer can't do, I'll get a Wii. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
