<!--QuoteBegin-"Eyonix"+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE("Eyonix")</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->IRVINE, Calif. -- Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that the release date for World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade™, the highly anticipated expansion for World of Warcraft, will be in January 2007. By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game.
“We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.”
Blizzard began the closed-beta phase of testing on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade earlier this month. The January 2007 release window will allow extra time for current beta testers to participate in the final stages of development and continue providing valuable feedback.
Further information on specific worldwide release dates, pricing, and other details will be announced in the near future.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The problem with World of Warcraft, is that no matter what Blizzard does, they get yelled at. Be it for adding content, not adding enough content, putting PvP, not putting PvP, delivering patches too late, putting out a patch before it's finalised...

They themselves(Not Gamestop, not EBGames, not Best Buy, not CompUSA, Not Circuit City...) has said "2006" ever since a month after it was announced. Always 2006.
I have many friends in the beta. They all say, that even with the 10k people on one server at peak times, there is no lag, whatsoever. And that the leveling experience to 70 is fine. The only thing left to wonder about, is if the raids aren't done, or the PvP system isn't finished.
Regardless, this now throws the entire thing into question. So their in beta? The 'beta' for Warcraft 3 was a year and a half long. WoW was in 'beta' for almost 2.
Now, I tend to believe the people on the forums saying, "YEAH! GO Q4 2007! WOOT!"
That said, I also find it a bit annoying, but I don't care all that much, it's just that I believe that Blizzard gets yelled at way too much compared to the amount of effort they did give. (say, compared to EA?)
I think that if they release it too early, you'll see "omg, hunters don't see anymore raids" or "blizz, don't do half-cooked patches, druids still sux" or "lol, priest=healbot for sure now" threads in much greater proportions than the amount of people who will whine and say "gg, blizz, I quit if you can't put up with your schedules" in the next month.

I understand, and would normally agree, but with an MMO, things have gotta be a little different, as people's schedules rely on them not feeding us bullish.
A good example: Because of the continued announcements of "Holiday 2006! Holidays 2006!" for well over a year, my guild's alliance is about to hang up the towel, now were moving forward again simply because we aren't sure when this is all gonna move- and the big guild is deciding to be a real a-hole about it, too.
So, you think they are holding the release back for fun? Besides, you cant level to 70 yet in the beta, so how can people say that the leveling experience to 70 is fine?
Looking at the phase of the beta test, it seems like there's too much to do yet for it to actually be released.
Summasummarum. Circumstances happens, stop being a whiner.

You can't? Oh really? Then dang, I guess I've been lied to both on the beta forums(publically available) as well as by the various youtube videos of the content.
They've released things on a whacky schedule before- Hunter Talents weren't even in the game(<i>at all</i>) until the Open Beta hit- a week before release.
They would still have a month, and could still burn the CDs beforehand- their an MMO, after all(first day patch, as always).
I'm not saying their holding it back for fun. Once again Epidemic, stop assuming I am so ignorant as to think that. What I think is, is that they are making a mistake that is both bad for business, as well as community.

Try 2 and a half. And regardless, I once again say, this is screwing up a lot of people's schedules, and expectations.
Note that while they say January, my expectations now of it being January are next to nil. You don't delay an MMO for it to be "ready" in a month- that'd be burning the CD, when they could do the alternative and just release a day-of-release major patch, to finish adding in what content/features they couldn't get burned on. This isn't an added layer of polish- this is a push into late Q1, if not Q2, 2007.
I believe there's a level 67 cap in the beta currently, I might be wrong though.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That cap was removed last Monday, from Nihilum's posts.
--Scythe--
I guess I don't have to worry about another $50 this holiday season.
It's a game. Stop crying about one damned month.

It's kinda sad that people are upset about a delay for an expansion for an MMO. Do people seriously have nothing else worth worrying about?

I know some people at my compsci course who are going to be very agitated tomorrow. I won't make comments about how Guild Wars: Nightfall is being released tomorrow. But I will be THINKING them.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Much <3 for GW though I'll probably have to wait to pick it up. Been a bit busy lately.
Like Cereal_KillR, if they released it ttoo early with a few bugs and less content, or if they release it later with bugs and a delay, people will yell at Blizzard.
It's not just Blizzard, pratically every MMO's company get yelled at 24/7 by people complaning at things like delays of update, delays of patches, nerfing a class, buffing up <x class> but not buffing up <y class>, adding items that can be gotten somewhere where people who farm them for money are angry at the company, removing items that can be gotten somewhere and the price raises, etc.
Anyway, it's not surprising and you should always expect it with any company and any game. If there are some people who want to quit but since they hear the expansion is near they don't want to quit yet; let them either quit(<i>You should always expect your MMO friends or clans to quit at some point</i>), or just temp. cancel their account(to stop getting billed) and reactivate it before it gets deleted.

It's not sad that people are upset about it, it's natural for anyone to be upset about it. On the other hand it's sad that people are getting really worked up and angry about a month or two delay.
Waiting for releases and getting a delay or two with obtaining that item is really common, you should have something to do while waiting for stuff to be released.
When I mean should, I don't mean suggesting that you should get something to do while waiting for stuff to be released, I mean you should already have stuff to do while you wait for things. Whether it's playing other games, exercising, cleaning stuff in the house, watching TV, or just sleeping and lucid dreaming about getting the expansion and playing it in your dream; it all works out and helps get the time to pass by.

You should see the choir of screaming, feces-hurling monkeys that is the Planetside forums. And that's for a game with, like, a few thousand subscribers or so.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
They were.
What people are seeming to not understand is, this is an MMO.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I think that's the main reason that a delay is a good thing in some aspects. Half-baked MMO releases suck hard.
Which one's that?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Don't say anything about a date. It could look like 2 months, and you're completely satisfied, less than two dozen bugs left: Do. Not. Say. Even. Vague. Dates.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Don't make games: Make tech demos.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
This is also a good policy, if you're known for your awesome tech demos.
