I'm up for some UGL action. You have my clans support..
We arent sure if we want to go CAL or not.. however we will if there isnt any other option.
Checking the website.. there doesnt seem to be much action.. but i'll try anyway
CAL only has 6 teams for this season, it seems. I don't think anyone wants to play some other league when the more known one has barely anyone playing.
cal playoffs right now, so only playoff teams are displayed in standings. if you're intrested in playing competitively, there really is no alternative.

But unless there is some other special league (like the World Cup and such) why is there any reason not to do CAL?
Already answered here.

Depot has mellowed considerably. It's amazing what difference a year or two makes.
The rules are completely different, primarily. If you don't care to join, then don't. Some interest has been expressed for an alternative, which UGL has provided.
For my previous post, I = the generic NSPlayer, since I will probably not play NS competitivly unless either the FFT team is reformed or Covert Oral (tag - [CO]) decides to regroup and kick ###### once again. Also who said I wasn't interested, anyway? Its not like I have said "OMGz00rs!!11!1!1!1one!!!1! UGL is teh suckz00r! Dunt pliae tehere!" I even had some consideration of doing some sort of coverage of UGL when I was eSports at nsR, had it ever started up again.
What rules? All I can find are amendments. And whats different? I'll have a blind eye towards the no main site (something other than forums, and I know that you are doing some "upgrade," but I know BM knows at least about "upgrading") and little scattered "news" posts (because a message supporting some net radio is more important than saying we are looking to start up a new season), so no points taken away there.
You say these things but don't give examples.
Its like me saying something like you should drive a Saturn versus a Hummer. And the natural response would be why? Then, I would say, just because.
Personally, if I were doing a league (and if you wanna take notes, fine by me), I would market it as (and please excuse me for using football everyone... =/) the equivelent of high school football to college to pros (Pros being CPL, college = CAL, and you as high school). In other words, market it to NEW teams as a pre-CAL league, not only to help them get used to competitive NS, but also to have them play not as hard teams right off the bat. I mean, what newb team really wants to go against Reflect on their first go? You do this so that way there is no bad taste in their mouth when it comes to comp play, and help them build up skills while competing. Who knows, this could even help comp play.

Thats just me, though.
No one is disputing that CAL is the premier league for competitive HL gaming, nor is anyone claiming UGL is better. It's merely an alternative for those who want something different. Again, if you're happy elsewhere no one's forcing you to change.
As to what rules are different, it's structure is unique, top to bottom - anyone who's been involved in the NS community should know that. It's also the only league afaik that offers competitive combat which, when played with limitations set by plugins, is an awful lot of fun. For examples or proof of the rules for play, you'll have to wait for that if you find it necessary to view them in black and white, as the website is currently getting re-coded so it's compatible with the latest mysql version.

But...I don't wanna do competitive combat and I live in the States.
You are not supplying an argument that seems to work. Why would leaguers involved in CAL want to join a league less established than CAL?
