Though I think hud_saytext 0 might be better for future trailers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
That's not to say it didn't look awesome, though. Once muted. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> I found the initial dialogue a bit lame, but the overlay through the gameplay portions was fine to me.
The music needs to go somewhere far away, as does the man who does the voices, but otherwise it looks pretty nice. I think it would be nice if the ships exploded when shot, though, instead of just a puff of smoke.
Well eventually they will be exploding into various pieces.
It's just that smoke is the next-best thing we could do to get it done in a timely manner.
You guys need to understand that we aren't going to be 100% feature and bug complete... If we were to make a "true" 1.0 with everything in it, and all bugs out, then we would be releasing next year.
We wanted to get it out (and also had a blessing from VALVe who said we should have released months ago) and so things will just be added in patches...
I hope everyone enjoys the video, and more media will come in the next few days. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
*Edit* That was just our sound artist doing a quick filler for the beginning... We have other voice talent in the game such as a girl doing the on-board flight computer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I just meant an explosion, like when a grenade blows up in Half-Life 2. I don't need pieces of a ship floating around or anything. It's just weird to have 2 missiles and a ship meet, and the result is a smoking ship. I mean, what happened to the missiles?
I'm conflicted. On one hand, anyone who doesn't understand that a mod is in beta and decides never to play it again isn't a person I want to be playing with anyways. On the other hand, if I like a mod, I want it to be very popular and succesful, which won't happen if it releases a buggy beta that makes all the stupid people never want to try it again.

Exactly my point; im willing to try out a mod again if a new version comes out, but most people will look at it and go "Oh, i remember playing that a few months ago and it sucking hard"
Then a month ago VALVe said "Release this now!" and we brought up those same concerns... The thing is, is that pretty much nobody can get a kick-###### mod right out of the gate.... It will take many patches until it is kick-######...
For example, Counter-Strike.... That was beta, and in fact the first beta it didn't even have original art someone told me (it just re-used Half-Life models) but hell, today it's the #1 played online game... Being a beta doesn't mean anything.
I see no point in us waiting another 12-18 months just so we can have a "1.0" release with every feature, and then we have to rebalance a lot and cut features etc etc...
I think though that I'm making this sound worse than it is. In fact, we only throw the term "beta" on there, just to make the public feel better. The term "beta" is so frickin over-saturated that it has lost its meaning.
Anyways, you guys shouldn't worry about our dev cycle. Just worry about giving feedback to us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
I think it's better for people to get into the game (even if it is beta) - if the gameplay is good then people will keep coming back despite the bugs.

I'd like HL2 to have beefier and more fiery explosions in general, as opposed to the exploding brillo pads.

When you list sound for weapons and ships as a feature, it means the mod must be pretty beta
The client is already set up and on their servers... (I have the secret download link, muhaha) So all that they're waiting for is our go ahead to put up the links. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Also, if anyone knows a server host who would like to host an Eternal-Silence server, please email me at briguy992 @ gmail.com

Too bad the forums aren't up.
To my beta-testing buddies, Iced, John Sheu, MadMech, the whole devcrew that came in the middle of my busy-as-hell last year: Congratulations on getting it out,a nd sorry for not being able to be there. Having finally gotten up to Seattle after talking about it for a year(craigslist ftw?), my freetime has shot through the roof...and will most likely soon shoot right back down.
Regardless: Congratulations on getting it out guys. I'll be playing it as soon as I have a working PC(ah, the joys of building your dream machine, only to have the video card die a early, warranty-covered death). Nice Trailer btw. I hated missing those meetings ><

The guy doing the voiceovers is clearly trying to sound cool, but... he's not. I was actually cringing from contact embarassment during the video.
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />
That's not to say it didn't look awesome, though. Once muted.
Please, make the voices stop!

Honestly, even though the clearly have "Beta" slapped onto the title, they end up turning more people off to the game then people are attracted to it.
I'm conflicted. On one hand, anyone who doesn't understand that a mod is in beta and decides never to play it again isn't a person I want to be playing with anyways. are you going to be playing tonight?
Except that their download server is getting destroyed. I can't even get on it.
Edit: Got on! Moving slow, though. 170 Kb/s.
