I prefer team play but pretty often my score looks like I'm a frag hunter.

Varies, dependant on team, my mood and if I'm wired on energy drinks.

Im leaning more towards team player now, getting myself killed as bait and parasiting anything right before I die.
But I feel dirty not having my standard 100/5 frag score from like tfc, or 40/5 cs.
But 8/20 aint bad when you get to chew on a marine **obscenity**. HAha

DM got old after the first Quake. I am always first and formost a team player, I don't do anything without the team in mind. What is the point of having tons of kills if your team loses? NONE! You still lost the game with your team, so I don't care if I have 100 more frags than everyone else, when my team loses, I lose...

You may have 100 more frags, the team may have lost, BUT , Im sure you saw the most action out of everyone. In tf I like when I have highest frag/deathcount. Lets me know, no one seen as much action I did.

There's a time to be either one at certain times. There is no correct style. A balance of team-playing, building, etc. and killing will be much more effective than relying on one extreme.

Always a team player. If everyone is sitting around try to drum up support for an organised attack/probe. Both sides need team play. Seldom will 1 person beat everyone - even then they respawn! You will get worn down and then be dead.
As a marine demand instructions from the bossman. If he aint to forthcoming
1) prepare to defend the C&C.
2) organise an attack to take resource points.
3) use the resource points as staging to take a hive. Nothing annoys them critters more than a hive being occupied.
4) Demand instructions evey minute.
5) Do not demand weapons - the C&C will reward you for teamwork and good shooting (good shooter aughta get armour/and guns - nb the shotgun is imho rubbish! - and expensive)
6) If your not the leading unit - follow them - support them.

Aliens:
1) Attack
2) Attack
3).....
4) attack (all above include die)
5) think about gorge - do not switch to gorge instantly - u will need points to build something - hopefully a resource point - or defense chanbers (carapice/armour!!)
6) Not more than 2 gorges in a standard game unless were heavy defensive or heavy attack - even then you get more frags if your not gorge!
7) Takes Hives asap and build up defenses there - then the hive (it costs a lot so dont let it die!!)
8) For god sake communicate - when you see some bad guys parasite em then talk. Talk before switching to gorge!! Talk about setting up abushes- TALK!! Use voice coms - if you got the bandwidth - check it is working and you can be heard easily. Talk clearly. Know the locations on the map (names). The marines have there C&C we have to talk! If you aint got the bandwitdh - use the team chat. - At worst stick to the comms keys.

Enough team play is the most vital part of NS. - IMHO

I like organized squads when I'm playing marines. If someone goes off on their own I'll either A) Follow to help/protect or B) Let them die if they break from a group. The only time I run around alone is when I have to rush to a resource tower or to a certain spot and can't afford to take the time to form a group. I feel the same way as an alien, but I prefer smaller groups with more distance between teammates. Marines need to stick together.

I'm a team player all the way. I consider myself to be a pretty good gorg. I try to build smart. I simply love those maps where it works out so that you can offensive gorg. Getting kills while you're not even around RONES!!!

I'm all about the teamplay. Nothing is more devastating than three HA/HMG marines with welders, each spotting for each other and welding armor after a fight. As long as the Comm drops them ammo and health from time to time, they can be almost unstoppable.

Same thing with the aliens. You get around three or four of any group and you are talking kill marine central. Any marine seeing four skulks charging from all directions is going to be spitting out obscenities like you wouldn't believe. They know thy're screwed bad, especially if they are alone.

I always feel like I've played a good game when teamplay is used, whether I win or not.

BOO-YAH! no argument there. Teamplay makes NS fun whether you win or not. I like the fact that the marines don't have individual scores...it deters someone from being an ego-tistical maniac and HUNTING for aliens rather than helping the team.
Also on the subject of teamplay...voice communication is quite handy when used right. In moments like those, the mics seem like a god-send. But other times, you'll have a bunch of guys TALKING about other CRAP! THIS DOES NOT HELP THE TEAM! WHY DO I HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOU TALK ABOUT FAT BROADS AT YOUR SCHOOL? I DON'T CARE! It's times like that that make me angry that I can't mute ppl in NS.
your mic is not a telephone...don't use it as such!

Even when I look like I'm DMing, I'm acting as a team player. I've found that usually when I play alien I go gorge, since I can build things with great efficiency and make sure things get up "right". The only times I go off by my lonesome at all are either to build something, or as a Fade to harass or destroy marine outposts. I know that if I can keep the marines busy by killing them now and again and not dying, that I'm taking heat off of a hive that my time should be building up.

When I go off by my own as a marine, it's almost always to go ahead and secure a location I can hold or even do a little scout work (if I happen to find an undefended resource tower, I call it out and do my best to take it down). If I think that I can distract the aliens by getting to their hive and tagging it so that many of them run back to see why it's flashing red, sometimes I'll go for that.

But I tend not to do such things if I'm needed elsewhere or if my commander tells me to do something. And in general I don't considering most anything I do DMing, since its always control of a region or something like that I'm concerned about, not simply frag hunting. If I can sneak in somewhere and cause some damage, I don't think that a playing style should be discounted if its effective.

After all, I'm somewhat tired of games where you have to worry about your frag ratio. NS is refreshing in part because you can really get into the teamplay and focus on that. That's one of the big reasons I like it.

(Doing something crazy once in a while like going 40-0 with a Fade is just a side bonus.)
