It doesn't even have 1280*1024, the max resolution is 1024*768...how flipping stupid is that.

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

Okay yeah, that's pretty bad. Althoguh if it runs as well as the MP beta, I can't see myself ever going above 800x600 and still maintaining a framerate

no, Max Resolution is in the 3000s range.

Just no one's PC can handle it, and your monitor isn't capable.

1280x1024 is a off-base resolution, anyway. I wish they'd have it, but I doubt many could run it anyway.

They say that but everyone knows it's grade A BS. Of course the content reflects the gameplay. We wouldn't be saying this about HL2 because HL2 doesn't have these problems.

I think it would have been lame if the people who conquered all of Earth's armies in 7 hours and implanted machinery in humans to make them totally subservient to their cause were worried about losing a soldier or two. If you're a combine overlord you couldn't care less how many metro cops you lose.

Ok, here's the thing about the storyline and all that.

I don't care.

I want to have interesting shootouts. The combine charging at me like idiots while i gun them down from a corner, and then watching as they wait in the train tracks to get plowed over is just nothing more than funny.

Does it have that girl in it? Because if she runs at you, there's no way I'm gonna be able to sleep for the next week.

Downloading from torrent at 2.5kb/s. Amazing.

It was just the right length for a demo. I honestly don't know what you're complaining about.

A short demo would be something like the Farenheit one.
• esunaesuna Rock Bottom Join Date: 2003-04-03 Member: 15175Members, Constellation
The demo was exceedingly short, especially so given it's 650mb filesize, but there's a few things to take into account here.

Firstly, it's actually damn good. Every single doubt that the mp demo put into my head about the engine's capabilities or the game's ability to deliver what it promised was thrown out the window. I loved it, taking down the enemy with a boot to the face and splattering their claret with a shotgun blast feels satisfying, moreso in slow motion.

The weapons, which in the mp beta seemed kinda puny and underpowered certainly didn't disappoint. The railgun-esque weapon alone was enough to make my panties moist. The fact that they threw in a lot of the weapons that were evidently from the latter parts of the game was a good thing, i believe.

Also, i have a suspision that this demo was actually made specifically for the demo, and is not part of the full game itself, the shortness, heavy weaponry and the fact that lith are holding their cards close to their chest regarding the storyline make me believe so.

Also, another great thing. It's a demo before the game's released. That's not so much rare these days, but it's certainly not as common as it used to be. The whole point of demos is to try before you buy, but with games like Doom 3 and HL2 releasing demos way later than the game's retail release, it's a worrying trend.

And the horror elements.... I won't go into detail about what and where they are, and i encourage a lot of you to also keep your mouths shut about them. Don't spoil the surprises.

yeesss... i concur with everything esuna said.. playing it was pretty nice, although short, it makes me want to play the real thing pretty bad.

I got pretty sleepy though waiting for stuff to load when i was adjusting my settings :/, really need a new vid card for this, good thing for the slow mo parts ^^

For 650mb, i kinda expect more than a few minutes gameplay, however good it is, really.

Also, a few more plusses that it has going for it, the loading times are far better than that of HL2's and Doom 3's on my machine, the fps was definately better than that which i got in Doom 3, and it looks slick to boot.

Does this mean i can have the actual model of the girl, and not just a 2D sign saying "HERE BE SCARY GIRL" THIS time?

Good.

Wasnt sure how it would run on my spec, but i ran doom 3 well.
• DiscoZombieDiscoZombie Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18951Members
I wasn't impressed... it seems like a straightforward shooter - the scary parts feel like a gimmick, and were no scarier than doom3 or hl2... the controls aren't intuitive, and even after I remapped them, I had trouble getting used to them... the AI did seem smarter than most, but the weapons kinda bored me... like, 3 assault rifle variants, a shotgun, and a sniper type plasma weapon (which, once I got it, negated the need for any other weapon)... maybe if the demo had been longer, there would have been more material in it to woo me... oh well.

:o

I'm going to buy this game.

I'm going to play this game.

In the dark.

Home alone.

And I'm going to be found the next day.

White haired.

Pale Faced.

Whimpering.

In a corner.

In this day and age, very little of that 650mb will be levels or 'length'. File size doesn't have that much to do with how much you get any more.

And man, a few minutes? Did you all rush through it? I got a good 30 minutes out of it, on normal, and I certainly wasn't sitting about for long periods of time twiddling my thumbs.
