    I don't remember where, but I saw a similar thread pertaining to another sound, much like this one.

    It ended up that the sounds that some of the NS Devs used, is infact from a public sound pack somewhere.

    EDIT: Oh, and I remember Nem0 saying something like "If someone is using sounds that we use and have manufactured, let us know.. or something of that matter."

    I hear sounds in NS all the time, Phase gate, commander dropping stuff, Skulks chuckle in Starcraft etc, alot of the sounds came from a public soundpack.

    There are a lot of generic sounds out there.

    The most common by far is the one used for police radio chatter, usually as a background noise.

    "91-8 threeaninsperable something something"

    They use it in all the Sim-City games and on tons of commercials and TV shows.

    I believe a version of Descent had the old phase gate sound (also the current IP spawn-in sound).

    I swear starcraft must've used a popular sound library because I hear noises from that game just about everywhere o.O

    Yes that rings a bell... But he was refering to the "voice" sounds which were <i>not </i>from the public library if I remember correctly...

    Yup, that comment was mainly aimed at voice samples, or weapon sounds - which are mostly courtesy of MaXX <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Maxx needs to do us some tutorials, i'm interested in how he did weapon sounds. I have access to a lot of weapons, but getting a mic to them is a problem <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    And where are these free public sounds you all talk of found at? Every place I go has uber low crap quality so its useless ingame <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    High quality public sound libraries that you must pay to access, if I recall correctally.

    I have a massive library of ambient sound effects. It's a mini-hobby of mine to collect them. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    PS: Good Sci Fi SFX are the hardest to kind of SFX to find. Period. This is probably because they are hard to make and record. Recording the electric shoosh that is used to make a plasma blast for a weapon in Stargate requires more money than to record the sound a computer fan makes or the sound of some rain. (although good water looping SFX are also hard to find)

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->High quality public sound libraries that you must pay to access, if I recall correctally. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Yes.

    You can also buy sets/packages/anthogies of SFX's but they are ridiculously expensive. I would love to have a package of all the Stargate sound effects made public. That would so rock! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    PS: You could also make your own sound effects but it's vastly harder to do a professional job than it would seem. I've made a few, mostly pro-like loops of things like subtle rumblings and breezes/wind, and also debris-type noises.

    Hmm heard the Doom door sound lot's of times and the zombieman and imp attack and idle sounds. Also the Xenocide and some ns door and buttons sounds. Doom sounds are more common (from the ones I heard anyway)
