Bf2 Expansion

Special Forces
On a interview with Dice Canada IGN got some nice details about the upcoming expansion. They say the main focus will be on "Super soldiers" and some equipment, including grappling hooks and nightvision. It's mostly focused on infantry and not vehicles, no new classes and no change to commander mode will be done.

7-8 new maps and some will be at night.

New armeés: Navy Seals, Brittish SAS, Russian Spetznats, MEC special forces and 2 isurgent groups.

Note: Patching and fixing is not done by DICE Canada, so no "Why dont the fix the first one before they work on the expansion"

    I wont be buying this.
    Why?
Not because I hate EA, but because Im simply not interested. To me, the infantry focused levels of BF2 are simply the least entertaining.

If they are going to do an expansion pack, I want my A-10, dagnabbit! And we have 3 armies warring, so why dont we have 3 fields of battle? I can see the headlines now... "Drought in China leads to famine, invasion of the American Midwest" Sure its far fetched, but hey, Its not like we will be invading China in the near future, either, is it?

That's a good idea, I'd like to see some fighting somewhere other than the Mid-East.

this sounds too much like AmericasArmy, and well that is a good game, but its free. + its probaly better than this will turn out to be, so no money to EA

Bah. I'm worried that this will drain away too much of the regular Battlefield2 audience.

To me, this smells like a ploy by EA to jump on the superhuman bandwagon with Splinter Cell. I don't like the entire "above the line" deal, because it drains the feeling that you get when you're part of something larger. A good 64-man round at the Gulf of Oman is my favorite thing in the entire game, because something in between the Strike Eagles flying overhead, APCs rolling past you, and your five comrades on voice comms there is a sweet feeling of grand immersion that you don't get while exercising powers beyond most people's control.

Plus, have you ever played at the start of a 64-man Strike at Karkland game? It's a boring stalemate at the entrance to the city resulting in a constant feed of "Medic-Me-Medic-M-Medic-Medic-Medi-Medic" through your headphones. That's what I envision this as, with smaller maps but never giving up the community's obsession with huge battles. Then, on top of that, "Special Forces" brings to mind an old America's Army image of dying thirty times in a row because I suck and I don't know where the fire is coming from, so I never get a chance to really train myself on real rifle usage.

Sounds like the BF'42 Secret Weapons of WWII addon pack... Worthless POS, took away from the game, and IMHO, was a disgrace to WWII.

And the interview says they're adding 10 (ten) new vehicles, so don't complain about the infantry buffs.

Sounds awesome to me. I love the grappling hook/zip line idea. <3

I prefer Karkand, Mashtuur, and Sharqi to almost all the other maps, so the expansion sounds great to me :D

Uh the Special Forces will not be "Super Soldiers" they'll just have equipment coming out of everywhere.

That said though. There are SAS

If the BF1942 expansion packs can be used as an example, they didn't significantly alter the vanilla playerbase. People played the expansions for a while, but after a while, it was pretty hard to find any servers running them and even harder to find players.

What i really really really really REAAAAAAALY want is in some of the previews you could rope down from a blackhawk (like in blakhawk down) this feature was removed and it would be great if they put it back

    Listen! Carefully, in fact.

They do not remove things because they are awesome and work out great. They remove things because in practice, they are no where near as cool or as fun as they sound. I know you want to rope down from a Blackhawk. They did too, until they programmed it in. I'm sure you'd change your mind the second you got killed every single time you roped down, though, because if you went fast you'd go splat and if you go slow you'd get shot. Moving in a straight line down from a hovering helicopter is a heck of a lot worse than jamming "9" right before you hit.

Also, consider what happens if, for some reason, the chopper moves. To dodge a Stinger, perhaps. And you have 5 guys roping down.

Yeah. That rope just got a whole lot more dangerous.

note there'll be 10 vehicals and 12 guns on that expansion
since they say the exp. will focus on infantry
we can expect 10 more cars or tank to drive....
but 12 guns, that'll be interesting

also, though EA say it's US vs PLA vs MEC
but all the maps seems to be US vs China/MEC
hope thay bring some action between these 2 factions in the expansion...

I don't know what you lot are talking about, Karkand is my favorite map by far. I hate the big maps that spread the action out too much. We have the ability now to hold 64 players on a single server; if they're spread out across a huge map its just like playing several games of counterstrike connected together... with vehicles.

*edit* I also don't give a damn how they justify a fight taking place. If they put in a map where the SAS have to capture the white house, I honestly wouldn't care. In fact i'd love an SAS vs SEALs map
