Crouching Skulks, Hidden Chuckle.

<div class="IPBDescription">The way of the Taunt & Para.</div> Hello all.

Today, I'm instructing in the use of the best two things a skulk gets. Parasite & Taunt.

Firstly, for all you new aliens, your HUD is a GOD-SEND compared to the lousy (pfft!) marine one. You can see where all your friends, enemies (if your team is playing right) and conflicts are, ALL THE TIME. Bother to just stop, and look where everyone is. It'll ensure you live longer.

Thus leading onto...

PARASITE! It's great. If you see 3 marines building, DON'T run in there. Parasite them all, go hide. Use team comms, call friends. When there's 2 or 3 of you, not only will you not have to get mowed down by a sentry, you'll also get the comedy of watching the marines die as you can see them, but they can't see you.

Also, at the start of the game, if you have several skulks going for a rush, don't run in with them. While they keep the marines busy, tag EVERYTHING in their base. It makes finding the marine base much easier for those of you who don't automatically memorise the vent layout (Yes, I do it by habit now, I can't even remember what the marine HUD looks like anymore) and, you'll know when the <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> try to expand.

Ah, expansion.... leading to the wonderful uses of... Chuckle.

Chuckle. Down -> Left -> Up -> Release. Memorise this, boys & girls. One <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> sat in a vital point, chuckling periodically, can curb an entire marine teams construction plan. Oh, they'll still build, but now, instead of 4 marines rush building, you've got 1 building, and 3 covering the entries. Sure, you're not upping your kill count, but you're keeping them occupied, which is the point of a Skulk, until the Fades show up.

Anyway, my 2 cents. Just trying to show that Skulks ARE still useful after the building of Hive 2, in particular.

Please don't Parasite marine buildings... at least not <i>all</i> of them. Get the Turret Factory if you really feel like it, but nothing is more annoying than seeing 40 yellow dots on hivesight because ever marine building has been parasited.

Chuckling to mess up marines however is pure gold. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I've actually had a group of marines stop in their tracks because I parasited them, hid and chuckled. It took a few more of their friends showing up before they got the nerve up to move forward. Then they promptly died.

Chuckle is so awsome it should be a weapon. I have it bound to "q"

It took me a while to figure out how to bind. You have to be in the readyroom for it to work apparently.

So, in the rr, go to the console and type:

    bind q "impulse 7"

Works like a dream. Instant fear inducing sound effects.

Yea, parasiting is really fun. In eclipse I kept 4 marines from building an outpost in the triad generator array. They got so fed up with me they tried to hunt me down, but my team made short work of them.

Another fun thing is to parasite marines to death...theres no real way to tell youre taking damage and most people wont notice theyre dying. So find a nice crack to fire through and empty full adrenaline bars of parasites at a single marine...after a little bit he'll drop dead <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> Plus...the bragging rights are wonderful <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Once upon a time on the map with the Mess Hall once (the name of the map escapes me at the moment). I hide above the Marine entrance in the Cargo Room with cloaking and silence. Marines would come up from the ladder and the commander would place a turret factory and the Mariens would proceed to build. Some in Heavy Armor, some in Light Armor. I would spit three parasites at a Light Armor guy and everyone would stop building and run around like a headless chicken looking for the offending Skulk. For some odd reason no one looked up. Eventually I racked up six parasite kills before I was splattered. It was a very good day to die.

    I'm not sure if this contributes, but I wanted to tell a silly story. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

several times i infiltrated the eclipse HQ and sat as a skulk in the nice dark ceiling nearby the CC, parasiting anyone spawning there, and in between parasiting the CC/boss or the spawns. killed the boss that way in one game, in others took out a spawn.

one of my goals is to win that way once - take out the spawns with parasite alone, then munch the CC for victory! while everyone else is running around.....

Yea, ns-caged is the best map to pull this, as the marine start as a nifty vent in its back with a good field of vision. You can't take out the CC there, but a clever skulk can parasite every marine that gets out of the base, nearly ensuring victory for his team. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

When i go in that vent i go lerk and take out infantry portals and turrets and factorys, if they are in my view, aswelll as the odd marine that gets in the way.

When you and a buddy skulk chuckle from different directions, one after the other, it scares the HELL out of the marines. And when they're frantically running around, you both come from either side and -- mmm. That's pretty damn satisfying. Kharaa should work in groups more; they're far more effective.

I like it. I really like it. That's a very nice use of psychological intimidation. And while I'd heavily advice against tagging every structure in the marine base, I'd say tag two or three so that the grouping is visible and distinct from any other marine or parasited area. Other than that, parasiting turret factories can be of great assistance, if you announce that you are doing so. It's a big GO HERE AND DESTROY THIS mark that helps to lead your teammates to a location like a waypoint.

I have it bound to Z. I'll sit above a base thats being built, and spam it. I'll hear alot of WTF IS THAT GRUNTING!?!?!? from the marines. =) But no runners mostly. Also, if you see me, be worried. I tend to examine areas very closely before moving on. Especially if I hear a chuckle or notice a parasite.

You don't splatter, you sort of... backflip.
