  The orbital mechanics in this game are very counter-intuitive and weird. It's almost as if there's friction near the "planets," preventing you from setting up a proper orbit. Even a seemingly smooth orbit deteriorates over time.

  well I'm sure the friction was added simply so that you can't find perfect orbits. That would make the game too easy.
