Just play in pubs alot, and you'll get the hang of it. If people keep ejecting you, play in off-peak times so not as many advanced players are playing, and you'll get a better chance at it.

    Practise makes perfect.

Know the hotkeys, know the locations of every place. also, know choke-points. Res management is important. Do not rush all the upgrades or you will not have res for RTs. Similarly, do not just get Rts and forget about upgrades.

Do not waste res on med or ammo spam. Drop what is needed and not anymore. Pay attention when people need orders or are calling for RT/PG/TF. Do not place buildings too near each other or the CC. Mines are a better defence than turrets in the MS.

Watch other people comm as well.

Depends on the game. Most imporatnt thing as comm is ability to improvise.

There are some training servers with bots which you could try. As a rule of thumb don't try comming on games where most people are above your skill level. Also, if you want to familiarize yourself with the commanding interface, you can start a server on your own simply by loading a map and activating the cheats. You can do this by entering the following commands into the console:

    map ns_mapname
    sv_cheats 1

You need to activate the cheats in order for the match to start with no players on the other side. Or you could ask a friend to help you try stuff out.

Regarding being stressed, don't try so much to win as to play the commander. There's nothing wrong with being a poor comm, most of us are. You'll most likely loose alot, but try to understand why you loose. Or why you win if you do. The goal is to be a flexible comm that can adapt to both his own team and the aliens.

Also, one of the best ways to learn how to comm is to watch successful comms. What do they do? In which order? How many rts do they have, how do they keep their rts up? How do they take hive down? Map control? And the most important question. Why?

There are also a lot of guides on the Frontiersmen Strategy forum. Many of them are somewhat outdated, but a good read nevertheless:

    Good luck.

    Use bots for training.

Try practising comming at siege maps,
Yes, it alot easier, but atleast you get to known on quick keys etc..
Then after you've learned the basics, start comming the classics..

Or as coris said, train with bots.

If you're not even sure what order to build, well... observe more closely when good commanders command.

To be honest, if you're not even confident in the order of things, you should probably wait before commanding. One of the best ways to learn is to not command, but instead observe.

I'm not a great comm or anything, but I can do it well enough... there's only so much of the interface you can learn, the important thing is knowing build orders, res management, and time management.. all of which can be learned through observation.

    Mac10Man,

Select some marines, and press CTRL (at least I think it's control, anyway) and a number from 1 to 5.

    Like
    CTRL + 1

If you want to select your whole team as a single squad, press the select all marines button and do assign them to a number.

You can do the same with buildings. I suggest using your squad slots for your obs and armslab, and anything else you need easy access to.

thx man, it would really help me when im not lookin around base, like im lockin down a hive or dbl and by the time i go back to the base to click the arms or obs to get mt/w1/a1 or whatever then a marine dies because he needs ammo or whatever

    it just makes things easier

as for the squad thing... i dont think i would use this, i was just wondering how do i do it
