    The sheep most likely were following the herd instinct of 'follow the leader'. I seem to remember a program i watched on <i>discovery channel</i> about walrus'es running off a cliff to their deaths a lot like these sheep. the program went into detail about how the herd was following it's herd instinct and flocking together, assuming that the "leader" was doing the proper thing and fleeing from predators/moving whatever.

    These sheep obviously seem to got the same idea.

    Some reasons for the suicides:
    1. They had enough for being stripped bare naked every year.

    2. They realized they were doomed for the dinner plate so they thought what is the point of living.

    3. They heard the end of the world was coming?
