How would I go about doing this?
Alright, with my DS being in my pocket during most of school, the silver on the corners have rubbed off. Under it is the white plastic:

What could I use to rub away all of the silver?

Wouldn't risk using any solvents on it as it would prolly melt the plastic case. Then again scratching the paint off would damage it just as much. Come on people there must be a way to remove paint off plastics?

sand paper? Would take some time, though...

use a medium grit sand paper, maybe 100 grit, then finish with a rubdown of 400 grit or higher

Yeah, all that sanding dust will do it a lot of good, huh?
  • BulletHeadBulletHead Join Date: 2004-07-22 Member: 30049Members
    hmm... good point...

well... you COULD use compressed air to clean it out afterwards, while you keep it in the pressure cone of a vacuume cleaners cone of depression. That should keep most of the dust out of it.

I worked there for 2 years - I'd be crazy not to join their ESPs as we got a 15% discount on stock purchases. But regardless, Home Depot is the best home improvement warehouse in the world, and the second largest retailer behind WallyMart.

I thought the second was the U.S. Government? I know Wal-Mart gets more profits and is larger than the Gov.

sandpaper is a bad idea. Use paint remover and a paintbrush.
  • DepotDepot The ModFather Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7956Members
Paint remover, paint thinner, or any type of solvent I would think would attack the plastic.

IIRC model shops sell little bottles of stuff that don't kill plastic.

    - might not work for that kind of paint though. I have no idea.

maybe you should paint the silver parts back on... or just leave it like it is.. think of it as battle scars.. making your gameboy that much cooler...

even though i still disapprove of the ds...

Use paint thinner. Apply it conservitivly with a cuetip or some such devise and rub it clean with a cleanex and another cleanex and water after every application. That should prevent too much damage from occuring to the plastic. May take a while to do however.
