The Official Nfl "pimp Your Team" Thread

DepotDepot The ModFather Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7956Members

Tell us how you support your NFL team.
As I caught myself drifting off topic in another football thread, I thought I'd create one specifically for fans to pimp their team. Tell us how you came to love them, what you do to support them, the most memorable game you've watched (live or on tv), any authographs you've gotten ... you catch the drift.

I'll reserve posting for now as my history is quite long with my team, so go ahead and start without me. This is a no holds barred thread, meaning anything and everything regarding your favorite NFL team goes. Just tell us all about your experiences and love for them.

American football bashing will NOT be tolerated here. Any / all such incidents of it will be reported in an expedicious manner.

I became involved with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a member of NFL Now! on or about August 25, 1993. Our goal: sell 10,000 club seats in 10 days so Jacksonville could officially submit their application as an expansion franchise. 10,112 club seats (the premium ones) were sold by Sept.3 and Touchdown Jacksonville! made their presentation to the NFL on Sept. 21. Jacksonville was awarded the 30th franchise in the National Football League at 4:12pmEDT on Nov. 30, 1993 and the town went wild!

I was hired by the Jaguars to sell inaugural season tickets immediately as I had experience with NFL Now!, and we sold Over 56,000 season tickets by Dec. 31, just one month after the awarding of the team. Needless to say, I purchased a pair of club seats on the 40 yard line, 3 rows from the grass. These were upgraded 2 years later to 50 yard line aisle seats, 7 rows from the grass. I am here to tell ya, we were so close you could tell which players wore drillies and which didn't. This seemed to be of great interest to the ladies ... I kept these seats for another 4 years before giving them up, so I had season tickets for a total of 6 years. We used to get to the stadium at 9:00am for a 1:00pm game - tailgating Pwnz!

My employment with the Jaguars was only part time, and temporary. But my wife at the time stayed on with them, and got us an oficial NFL gameball autographed by Tom Coughlin (coach) and Mark Brunnel (quarterback). We also attended a party hosted by David and Judy Seldin where coach and Wayne Weaver (owner) attended. It was held at a beautiful ocean-front 7000 sq. foot home. *sigh*

Actually their original logo was way cooler, but the Jaguar carmaker pitched a hissy fit and it got changed.

I ended up jumping on the train near the end of Shula's reign as the greatest coach in the game, ever ever. I also had the considerable joy of seeing Dan Marino's last few seasons before he just got too old and couldn't run anymore. The Dolphins have always been a playoff-level team for nearly two decades but always, like clockwork, lose in the first round of the playoffs because the weather gets cold and they're forced to get creamed by those kings of the north, the Indianapolis Colts. Long story short, despite being one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game, Marino never made it out with a Superbowl win. He retired in the late 90's and the team was never quite the same.

Since Marino retired the Dolphins have had excellent recievers but just haven't had a good quarterback or a good runningback. Enter Ricky Williams, my favorite player ever and the only good choice that then-coach Dave Wannstedt ever made. Y'all might have heard about his quitting, right before the season began last year, in order to pursue a life as a holistic healing man. HOWEVER, he's back this year along with second overall draft pick Ronnie Brown and a brand new Coach.

    Watch it.

(want an awesome logo? yeah, just look at the determination in his eye)

Wayne Weaver (Jaguar owner) autographed "75 Seasons" the Jaguars gave me for a Christmas gift, in addition to the official football. My grandson has the other football that's autographed by Tom Coughlin and Wayne Weaver.
AND ... several autographed pix of The Roar (Donna Parado shown). These are old pix.

Simple, born and raised in Southern Ontario, closest NFL to us geographically speaking. So of course on Sundays every week it's the one team I'm 100% sure to see...

Through that, (and 4 trips to the Super Bowl) I learned about the game and grew to appreciate it and them.

Even in the last few years while they have been "rebuilding" <stifle giggle> I've always worn my red/white/blue proudly...

What killed me was the 2 years I lived in Atlanta, and never once got to see the Bills play (couldn't afford/justify NFL ticket)

Am looking forward to getting out to the Atl/Buff game this year though.. . should be fun...
