Favorite List Cleared

This just happened yesterday when I were updating server favorites by ip (without actually launching game but from steams server list). Then I launched the game and favorite list was empty. Even the old servers which have been in for weeks.

I re-added everything and list was good as new. After playing I shut down the steam and later on that evening fired it up again. List of favorites is cleared again for no reason. Now the list is cleared every time i restart steam.
Anyone can help with this thing?

Ive had that happen before too, there is a file its all stored in, and sometimes gets rewritten, either due to corruption or other reasons, you can back it up, but I cant seem to remember where the darn file is located.

Backing it up does work though, and you can just dump the backup in if it happens again.

\Steam\config\serverbrowser.vdf opened in wordpad shows my favs for all games, that may be the correct file, someone else correct me if im wrong. but backing that up should make sure you save your favourites.

Personally I would recommend the 3rd party plugin for favourites known as Mr Pen & Missus Paper....

I've wiped mine too many times to bother sticking them back on, sometimes you can only add when in game, others not blah blah.. Its just another hack job by valve that may get looked into when they've gotten dod out the way.

There's a nice easy fix for this.

Close steam
Delete: steam\clientregistry.blob
Delete: steam\config\serverbrowser.vdf
Restart steam (it will update)
Hey presto, you can save your favourites!

If you backup a copy of serverbrowser.vdf then you can probably replace it if the list clears again.
