I'd also like to take this time to point out that global warming is inconclusive, and that during periods millions of years ago the Earth had much lower and much higher mean temperatures (I believe it was in the 80s and 90s for dinosaurs with no polar regions).
<!--QuoteBegin-Donald L. Blanchard+ Morrison Natural History Museum--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Donald L. Blanchard @ Morrison Natural History Museum)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The first is the dramatic change that occurred at the end of the Cretaceous Period. During the Cretaceous, and most of the Jurassic as well, it appears that freezing conditions were unknown on the planet. Evidence of tropical or subtropical flora, characterized by an intolerance of frost, and such animals as crocodilians at polar paleolatitudes has been mentioned previously. Global warming cannot account for the warmness evidenced at high latitudes, where average temperatures today can run below 0°F, or -18°C. A global warming of even 50°F or 28°C, would barely raise the polar regions to subtropical conditions, yet would render equatorial regions of the globe utterly uninhabitable, at around 135°F or 40.5°C on average. This is about the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth today, at Death Valley, California and in the deserts of Libya.
However, the average temperature of the Earth today is around 50 to 55°F, or 10 to 13°C. This is the temperature we would have if all the Earth's atmosphere were thoroughly mixed, and is quite warm enough to support a subtropical ecosystem, provided the atmosphere remains mixed, so that this is the minimum as well as the maximum temperature that exists.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<!--QuoteBegin-Encyclopedia of the Atmospheric Environment+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Encyclopedia of the Atmospheric Environment)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> The period for which we have instrumental records of climate change, such as observational records of temperature and rainfall, spans only a tiny fraction of Earth History. Furthermore, although we are now concerned with global warming due to mankind's greenhouse gas pollution of the atmosphere, this contemporary climate change should be placed in the context of much longer term changes in climate that have taken place quite naturally. Prehistoric climate change is known to climatologists and Earth scientists as palaeoclimatic change.
The global climate has shifted and varied for billions of year, perhaps since the Earth first had an atmosphere. The oldest palaeoclimatic records have allowed us to reconstruct climate fairly reliably during the last 500 million years. Over this time, the global climate has moved from extensive periods of global warmth to periods of global cold several times, each lasting 100 million years or more. Although today we are concerned about global warming, we do in fact lie in the middle of global ice-house climate, which began 40 million years ago, when the first permanent ice sheets formed on Antarctica. The change from the much warmer global climate which existed during the age of the dinosaurs, when global average temperature was perhaps 10°C higher than at present, is thought to have been caused by changes in the distribution of landmasses and the associated changes to energy redistribution throughout the climate system.
Within the long-term global icehouse climate, much shorter-term fluctuations in global climate have occurred. Relatively cold periods known as Ice Ages or glacials, each lasting roughly 100,000 years, are interspersed with much shorter warmer episodes or interglacials, lasting only 10,000 years. We now have a relatively clear record of such climatic fluctuations over the last 2 million years. Currently, the global climate lies within an interglacial. Global average temperature 20,000 years ago towards the end of the last Ice Age was some 5°C lower than today, when the north polar ice sheets were expanded to cover a considerably greater area of the continental Northern Hemisphere than is the case today. These glacial-interglacial fluctuations are believed to be driven by changes in the position of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun, and enhanced by climatic feedback processes which involve changes in ocean circulation and the greenhouse gas composition of the atmosphere.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

It has been argued that the Earth may have its own defense if we do manage to upset the heating curve anyway; one example: if it gets to hot, a bit more of the oceans will evaporate bringing more cloud cover to reflect sunlight.
[which has no immediate source, but I can always copy my Environmental History of the United States notes in here, if you really want to derail the thread further.]
If you want strange things to be concerned about: DDT was banned, but hundreds of chemicals that do the same thing are still in use. We are more concerned about fixing our natural environment's borders in national parks and with park services than assisting inner city housing, education and pollution problems. The European ideals of adapting surroundings to fit the people that colonists brought with them have caused unparalleled changes in ecosystems of many major world cities (but the first two that come to mind are Chicago - which diverted a river to facilitate its sewer systems, and New Orleans - which sits below sea level).
Now, can I just light off exploding stuff without being bothered by irrelevant spam in a [psuedo-]patriotic thread?

How about Andorra? Andorra sucks. All it does it sit between Spain and France with its 70,000 people and do nothing - not even impose income taxes on people. It's a lazy country.
Or how about Botswana, with their highest AIDS rate in the world.
Or why not Japan, with the crazy people living on an explosive island.
Or there's always Germany, they're all still Nazis, right?
Bah, country bashing.
<!--QuoteBegin-Encyclopedia of the Atmospheric Environment+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Encyclopedia of the Atmospheric Environment)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
The period for which we have instrumental records of climate change, such as observational records of temperature and rainfall, spans only a tiny fraction of Earth History.
