<div class="IPBDescription">Need a good, cheap, game to play</div> I just need something to stave off the boredom, something that isn't too involving, but its good, cheap (sub $30 CDN), but preferrably free game to play, something interesting but it won't take forever to finish or get boring. Post away guys, you all probably know of something....

Lots of free stuff. Oldies but golidies.

Edit: Geuss I should shut up about that stuff then. PC Gamer says it's ok!

System shock 2. Great game, but a tad difficult to get working on XP.

Also if you’re looking for old, old, but still good games go to <a href='<font color="orange">Because of the illegal warez or borderline warez status of many supposedly "abandoned" games, links to sites such as this one are currently not permitted</font>' target='_blank'><font color="orange">Because of the illegal warez or borderline warez status of many supposedly "abandoned" games, links to sites such as this one are currently not permitted</font></a>.

(PS This site may be view as controversial, but as there was a whole article in PCgamer about it and how it is an amazing and legitimate site, I think it should be ok here)

    edit: Well, nevermind then

    Continuum/Subspace.
A great little 'Infantry' (better than) time-waster.

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94124&st=0&#entry1493987' target='_blank'>From a different thread</a> I remembered I posted this (a few games in there)

I saw Medieval: Total War (no expansion, sadly enough) at a local Wal-Mart for $10. If you like strategizing or in-depth real-time tactics than the game should be good for you. Even better if you find the expansion pack (then go to the TW website and get M:TW XL or Napoleonic mods).

I'm not sure if it's on sale from the website (which was Vivendi or Black Isle or something) but Fallout and Fallout 2 double pack was $15 when I bought it 3 years ago. Beating FO2 alone is at least 10 good hours (I really forget how long, but it's probably a lot more).

<a href='http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php' target='_blank'>Ur Quan Masters</a> (also known as Star Control 2 - except that's a copyrighted name) was posted on these forums a long time ago...it took a few hours of my time.

<a href='http://www.fileplanet.com/132144/130000/fileinfo/Counter-Life-Beta-5.7' target='_blank'>Counter-Life</a> is a pretty fun modification for HL that goes through single player HL with CS weapons (and some minor changes involving getting money for killing stuff, and such). At least fun until you get to Xen...or maybe a bit before that.

System Shock 2 really isn't an under $30 game anymore, since you can pretty much only get it off Amazon.com or Ebay (since the company has long stopped producing anything).

And I think I'm out of stuff now...

Or do you want PC only?

If so I'd go with Crimsonland.

You can also check out N the Ninja, it's a free Flash game.

I bet if you do a Google search for: "Many former commercial games were released as freeware to promote their sequels", you will find a good collection of freeware games to search through. A few sites seem to be collecting links to the sites of their respective copyright holders.

Or just goto fileplanet and check their free / full games section, there's one or two good ones there.

    I'd say get <a href='http://beyondgoodevil.com/' target='_blank'>Beyond Good & Evil</a>. You can pick it up relatively cheaply for PC, Xbox, PS2 or GC, and it's an awesome game. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
