Semi Off-topic Question About .cfg

<div class="IPBDescription">Blinding flare on LMG is stupid...</div> I'm curiouse if there is a command to remove models or at least the annoying flare that takes up 1/4 of my screen (right in the goddam center) every time I shoot? I *cannot* kill a skulk (let alone a lurk at close range) if he's moving side to side, up and down etc because every time I start shooting him, I lose him. I can't see past my gun when it starts shooting. It's nearly made me quit, and I'm probably going to end up doing so if I can't find a way around it.
I've never run into something so frusterating in a FPS before as this. I enjoy playing marines, even though they suck, and yet I keep getting more and more reasons to keep playing aliens. I actually have the urge to grab OGC just so I can do something to a **obscenity** skulk early on in the game.
I know, you're thinking, "you just suck" or something along those lines. Maybe I do... somehow. However I have played FPSs since Duke3d, entered and won CS tournements in my city, and in my opinion do quite well at all FPS. I enjoy this game, but suck so much **obscenity** in the first 30 minutes that I end up quitting before I can pass that part of the game.
Anyway, if you've got any help or suggestions, please express them.

    r_drawviewmodel 0 will remove the weapon from your screen completely. You'll still hear it fire, but you won't be able to hear it reloading.

    Bugged me at 1st... but u get used to it... I don' t do the command listed above as I consider it as cheating... (u can do it with a skulk and get the huge TEETH out the view... that's totally cheating as the skulk is MEANT to have is view blocked, so maybe it's same thing for marine to have more difficulty shooting skulk... since they die so fast).

    That's called a muzzle flash. If you want it gone that bad, just delete the muzzleflash sprites in your ns/sprites directory, but I heavily advise against it. It's probably considered an exploit, since it may be there for balance reasons.

    I was playing today and some guy was bitching how you can't see for a 1/2 second when the Skulk mouth closes. I just told him to get used to it. I swear, it doesnt' harm you that much. And I think I have kinda gotten use to the muzzle flash. I'm only able to fire off 5 shots before a fade kills me anyways lol.

    Y'all should have seen the previous muzzle flash. It was 4 flares at 90 degree angles... one of which went DIRECTLY across the crosshair. This one is cake to aim through, compared to that.

    Seeing your jaws cover the entire screen half the time is really frigging disorienting. It also makes no sense seeing as the skulk has eyes OUTSIDE of it's head.

    The teeth and muzzle flash are supposedly there for balance.

    I've found that useing bursts seems to help in keeping track of a skulk. I notice alot of marines just hold the trigger untill they're empty because the recoil isn't that big of a deal in NS but I seem to kill more when I burst. *shrug*

    You got a point there, my opinion is that emptying your gun at full-auto make no sense, if freaks up aiming, and really isn't any better then bursting. I play CS DoD FA and now NS (NS the most <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ) so I'm pretty used to bad vieuws, dark room view-blocking and bursting. For the Skulk thing - stand still and attack them in the back, that works for me =)

    I unload about half a clip per Slulk, a full clip if the astard starts trying to circle strafe me..

    Anyways, how can anyone complain about the muzzle fire.. I mean wtf its not that big, or bright, I say just evolve and play the game.

    also if you increase your resolution the sprite gets smaller (i believe) so maybe your running at a very low res?

    If HL's very own cheat protection does allow disabling the on-screen weapon model, then it is not cheating according to current standards (which may change).
    (I'm assuming NS did not bypass the HL cheat protection).

    Which brings me to another matter.
    I recently did witness a *real* cheat: an invincible Light Armor marine.
    At first me and another skulk were chasing him but couldn't kill him. So maybe he was very agile. Then we kept chewing on him while he was standing still. He did not die.
    It was pretty much admitted to when me and another alien complained. Then i left the server.
    It may be a hole in HL cheat protection, or it may be specific to NS.

    there is a spectator problem where you are stuck as your Readyroom model, are super fast, cannot attack, and cannot die, it happens sometimes when you try to join a team then go back to the readyroom realy fast, hitting f4 again just puts you at a hive/spawn portal.

    Besides, a weapon without a muzzle flash isn't a weapon, it's a Super Soaker (You know, the water pistol)
