Onslaught

<div class="IPBDescription">yunno like ut2004?</div> some thing that appealed to me... say, marines sapawn with ha and wielders, a series of objectives and 1 life each.

they'd find ammo by pushing forwards. and every time an alien is dropped he gets up again. every minute, aliens would have 1 res per life, and kills, or at least damage would allow them more res.

i think we don't really need traditional onslaught, as its not too dissimilar from CO

its not really a suggestion, as such a reach out, what game play modes could ns support?

to be honest? the onslaught idea draws its breath from alien swarm, being stuck between hiding in a corner or getting your **** to the objective so you can get home, all the while watching your ammo, and indeed your team mates whittle away.

maybe regular ns maps with objective integration, say wielding enough of a series of points would result in a hive being jettisoned into deep space, a cache of HA's becoming available, a marine friendly tunnel that is normally filled with water draining, allowing for a relitively safe siege.

and too for the karhaa a 4th hive build location which is very safe, which requires resorces, or infection with a heal spray for a sufficent time.

even "dug in" maps with slightly random turrets and chambers scattered about their respective halfs of the map from the first moments.

i guess some of these things are quite possible, but should they be done? and please bring your own game type concepts

FIrst post(i think dont remember last time i posted), been lerking for a while. I dont think at this point in NS's development there is any chance of a new game mode being added. maybe ns2, but since co came out i dont see the community opening its arms to a new game mode. Really dont like sounding like mr negative here but yea, i dont see any new game modes coming out for ns (at least on the hl1 engine).

What a thought out and clearly defined idea(s) and implementations. This makes me even more excited to see what radically game-altering and gameplay balancing changes they'll have in 3.1.

    <img src='http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/9629/thumb6eo.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

But seriously, i highly highly highly highly doubt there will be new gamemodes introuduced to NS anytime in the next 1-2 years. Maybe once its been converted to source and that's been out and updated they'll probably start tinkering with gameplay features rather than new gamemodes. Something like welding doors, flamethrowers, new marine tech, physics puzzles etc... would be a lot more realistic objective than a new gamemode at this point and in the future.

Although, completely going against everything i said above, Nexus is a new gamemode for NS that pits ONOS vs. SALAMANDERS in a battle to the death. Flippity flop my amphibious friends!

Mmm, extra gameplay modes. Let's see if we can do better than Combat this time around. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I believe one of the hams already gave this idea out.

Yeah, I don't remember exactly who it was but someone made a modification to co_ such that you stand by empty res nodes to get your team's resource nozzle on it, and when the enemy comes up to it, it switches teams. I thought it was someone in pandas who did it though.

I'm pretty sure the author never intended this idea to be considered for inclusion in any form of NS in the near-future. He's simply tossing out random gameplay concepts that could be unique, fun, or interesting.

It's a "what if" discussion which may or may not yield some cool ideas, and there's no problem with that.

I only say this as a lot of people seem to be needlessly predicting that NS will not receive any new gameplay modes.

yea, it was more inteded as a "suggest your ideals" than "what should we do"

as for the CO/NS hybrid, could it be like battlefield? where being near a res node uncontested would turn the res node to neutral after a short while, and to your side after a while longer. the more players the faster the change, (aliens could even have modifiers, like fade and onos slow effect, gorge accelerated effect)

these res nodes would act as experience pumps, handing out a low yield of exp to all players on the team that owns them. this would encourage having a battlefront where you know you can find a fight, and in turn, quiet points for a little stealthing.
