P4 2.4ghz (400mhz FSB)
P4P800 Deluxe mobo
2 HDD's (80 and 200gig)
BFG 6800GT OC (AGP)

What I want:

With the new stuff I want I'm going to upgrade my shindig, then with the old I'll be mixing it with my VERY old computer which will go to my parents.

Only thing I have beef with is the AGP motherboard. From what I've been hearing PCI-Express is suppose to replace AGP. As we can see that happening already. How soon it will totally phase it out I can't say but only time will. But as of now your setup looks good. Should handle all games pretty well. And I love the case. And you better have a gig of RAM mister <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' />

Although I wonder what type of default heat sink + fan combination comes with the 64 bit chips. I was thinking on getting a GIGABYTE GH-PCU22-VG 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan, due to stock fans usually suck a lot.

I'm getting AGP because my current video card is AGP and it works fine for me <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' />

Make that a venice 3200+ as it has a better integrated memory controller that can handle 4 sticks of double sided at full speed if you want to add more memory later.

i wouldnt worry about AGP going out of date any time soon. PCI-express has come along but i dont think that it will completely replace AGP for quite a while.

i have a newcastle core and im not quite sure if it does handle dual channel memory. works great though.

Interesting. I'm doing almost the exact same thing as you right now Mullet. I'm recycling less parts, but I'm looking at the 3200+ as well. Haven't heard anything about heat problems with Venice. Here's my line of thinking as far as the motherboard is concerned - even the best is only about $150. If you <i>must</i> replace it in a few years . . . it's really not a big deal.

Well after some research it looks like venice is the way to go. It has a better memory cooler and is better for overclocking (which I doubt i'll do anyways), woot

If you count ever so slightly higher power usage then winchester, but nowhere NEAR newcastle(130nm) as CrAzY then yes <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' />. It's also the much better overclocker out of the two(it uses a dual stress liner process. Kinda like strained sillicon, but with compressed and strained sillicon so it improves both pmos and nmos) and has SSE3.

My only warning would be that you're getting a big heavy case. After my current full tower case made of steel my next PC will be a shuttle. Carrying that thing around is a **** and a half. If you go to LAN parties I beg you to reconsider, your back will thank you.

The Venice core is one the coolest cores available for the AMD 64 bit cpus.
The Venice core is also one of the best overclockable cores there is, as stated before. Many people have stated that they have overclocked to 2.7 Ghz or higher on air cooling.

Just go nuts and buy an X2, although you probably wont be able to afford anything after that.

x2s wouldn't yet be worth it. But they will inevitably push down the prices of the A64s quite a bit. Expect to pay maybe 30 bucks more for a 3500 in a month or so.
