Router Resets When I Update The Server List

My buddy and I both have this problem - we both have independent internet connections and seperate routers.

When we load NS and refresh the server list, the router resets itself. I can manage to recreate this EVERYTIME I refresh the server list in steam.

I have all the ports opened correctly and am baffled why it only happens in NS and no other games.

I tried searching to no avail. Any information someone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Is that what's happening? Must be -- couldn't get my connection back when I cold booted computer and cable modem ... but unplug/plug the router, and presto.

Notice no answers here. Have you figured this out yet? I can recreate this every time by refreshing server list as well. Not running other games through Steam, and haven't played NS since most recent update.

    The router is: D-Link Dl-524
    Cable Modem is: Motorola
    Computer is: Dell Dimension 8100
    Running: Windows XP

even though I would love to blaim dell (cause there workstations are lower then low) its just the router.

I found out that some routers tend to reset if traffic goes over a special port routed. (I know, I hated it). This is different for each router.

The only thing you can do is download other firmware (usually the latest) and update the router

DC Darkling: thanks. I'll give that a try. Otherwise, my NS playin' may be in peril.

My brother and I have the exact same problem (we play from the same router). I was just going to ask this myself...

Nobody knows? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I'm already running 30 flights of stairs as it is, I gotta go unplug/plug the thing any time I take too long to hit the "favorites" server tab.

Update the router's firmware already ...

like I said, put OTHER firmware on it. (try the latest, but new is not always better)

For my old router I had 3 different versions on disk, just to be damn sure. IT even went that far that I had to try a PREVIOUS version when my ISP changed something there side. And I had to change squat in my settings.

I have a D-Link 624. I upgraded the firmware and it seems to have fixed the problem.
