Webs And Gl Reloading

<div class="IPBDescription">.</div> I find it pretty annoying and stupid that your reload progress gets stopped if you touch a web. Since the marine loads grenades in there one at a time, he should not have to start over after he's already loaded 3 just because he touches a web.

Besides, how is touching a web with your feet going to keep you from moving your hands?

    Currently, if your reloading process is interrupted by anything (weapon change, web), you have to start over. The reload process should work like the shotgun, I'm not sure why it doesn't.

    And the reason that hitting webs with your feet affects your arms is because these are special webs that automatically wrap around your entire body when you touch them.

    I can understand why it's not reloaded as a shotgun. This would promote GL spam.

    Think about it: load 1, fire, load 1, fire.

    But I agree, anything that affects the marine shouldn't make it reload all over again. It's stupid to reload 3, then get webbed, only to reload all over again.

    Actually, it would be wasteful to load one, then fire. It takes time to get into the reload cycle, then you start loading one at a time. You would still be better off loading all four at once, the same way it works with the shotgun.

    I'm pretty sure they intended the Grenade Launcher to load partial clips. There's lots of other reload bugs anyway.

    I'm almost positive that sometime in the past (during playtests) that it worked like the shotgun. However, it may be a relic of the old GL which just loaded a magazine of nades much like any other gun or rifle. It may have just taken a cosmetic change without a functional change.

    New look, same old grenade launcher function.

    I'm pretty sure it does (or at least <i>can</i>) load like a shotgun. When I'm really pressed I'll load just one nade if I really need to fire it quickly. But there are lots of reload quirks, so I guess it could not work when webbed...I never really checked. I don't think there is a problem with allowing one to load individual nades, because, as mentioned before, it already takes a long time to open the GL and close it, so it's not like it's really going to be of any disproportionate benefit to do so.

    This is how the GL worked pre-beta (version 1.0-2.01). It operated like the shotgun in that every round loaded could be shot. I have lobbied ever since for it to revert back to this method, but no word has been mentioned about it by the devs. So I will take the opportunity to re-open this debate for some dev feedback:
    Why not make the GL operate as it used to: every round loaded can be shot?

    Because it would promote GL Spam, and make GLs need to be nerfed. How many times have you ran up to a reloading SG as a skulk and gotten your brains blasted out? Same would happen with GLs. GLING RINES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HELPLESS.

    No, not really. The wait time between loading the shot and immediately firing it off would be long enough to deter this behaviour (since a full reload would be more effecient), but still present so that the GLer isnt so udderly useless when faced with a problem.

    You're missing the point exactly. A gler is supposed to be useless when faced with this problem. A gl is all offense; you need backup. With the sg reloading, GLs will become the end game weapon, the sieges of weapons, and you will see more rambo gls. You don't want to see rambo GLs.

    The point has not been missed. GLers are supposed to be prone when faced with a problem, but not completely and udderly useless. You talk of GLers as if they can land a "faced" shot with every hit. Hardly the case. Allowing the GL to fire after every load still does not garauntee success, but it allows for at least an attempt at it. I challenge you to walk around with a GL and try to face skulks and see how far you get. Firing after every shot loaded will not create for rambo GLers, it will create for a weapon that is actually worth its res and research time and can be deployed more effectively.

    But don't forget: most of the res and "research time" comes from the AA, which leads to much more than just GLs. Now, if GLs were a seperate research time and res cost to research on the AA, I would thumbs up the SG loading. But I have to say, GLs would need to have less power if the SG loading was implemented, and they would have too much stopping power. GL spam is really hard to get past as an alien.

    It was reverted because there were some huge bugs with it.
    I suspect they'll eventually get around to fixing it, it's just not top on the list while things like hitbox bugs are still around.

    But.. you can currently do that.

    Full GL -- 4 rounds. Shoot one. Reload. Shoot one more. Reload. You only load back that 1 grenade you shoot each time, so it's 1/4 the normal GL reload time (or does a full reload load 5 for some reason? it always seems that way, but every time i try to count i get distracted :o)


    Anyhow.. rambo GLs? Geez, what? Like that'd be worse than rambo HMGs somehow?

    If they've got GL/HMG and you're at 1-hive still.. hey guess what, that's not a great situation to be in. Let's hope you're at 2 hives, or very very soon will be. If you're at 2 hives, you've got leap.. and try to hit a leaping skulk with a GL. Chances are decent you'll kill the skulk, but chances are even better that the skulk will kill you -- or that you'll wind up killing both the skulk and yourself.

    i agree that the reload needs to be changed for the gl. it was posted in the idea and suggestion forums but they havent really responded. If the gl reload is changed, make the grenades do more damage to the user, if he just shoots them around his feet. 3 grenades should kill a marine if he stands on them

    The GL used to be loaded like the shotgun, and there was GL spam because you could just hold E on the armory and fire forever.

    Actually that happened because the armory would load ammo into the active magazine. The grenade launcher never loaded like a shotgun.

    In one of the private betas of v3.0 they made the change, dunno what happened though.

    and they arent talking about getting ammo from the armory that goes into the clip, as in the pre 2.0's. Just shooting all four, then instead of having to reload all four just do 1 or 2 or 3, just like the shotty.

    Yes, so fix the reload or change the animation.
