yay!! new XP2000+, i can finally host ns_hera (barely) and ns_bast on my server!!! I love these maps but couldn't host them before. But something i noticed too.....my RAM usage is down.....maybe i just need to give it a day and it will be 100% full again. i dunno. I'll post again tommorow night and let you know.

With all the tweaking and reading i've done, its better just to get a new proc <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Erm, I hate to say this but my server does decent. I don't run hera or bast but on the whole it gets some good games going when people show up. I've got it set for 13 people (6:6 +1 res). Beginning on any map is 70-80% and it slowly creeps up to 100. Now ya wanna know the funny part?

    P3-450, 386Mb RAM.

    Swap: 128484 37872 90612

This machine runs everything on my network.

Point being you'd think a CPU 1-2 generations above it with 4 times the clock rate would do a little better than lowering total usage by 20%. There's got to be some tweaking that can be done somewhere because I don't think it is processor power that is the problem with comparisons like this coming out.

but what are your pings like? I can run all the maps, but the pings are like 700ms or greater on my 1.33Ghz Tbird. I got a new proc to make the pings lower, not my CPU usage.

CPU usage i expect to be 100%. Pings are in the <100 range for most clients (in my area atleast). 150 for others. and thats on a full server running ns_bast.

I know what i'm talking about. those stats i posted prior are for a 1.5hr game so far....onos and everything.

there isn't any tuning you or I can do. Its all up to flaya and the dev team to optimize the NS code. the only solution is to add more horse power at this point in time.

(alot or out of area, but all regulars and love the server, never complain about lag except with onos before) But the onos problem is gone now i believe with the extra horses.

I'll start out in the 30-50 range for most people and end up after about an our of play on a map having everyone in the 500ms range according to the scoreboard.

According to net_graph I'm at 110ms 1/2 a room away with the scoreboard saying I'm at 450ms. Whenever I ask people say that it doesn't seem too laggy in spite of the numbers.

Of course that isn't on Bast or Hera. Both were removed for lag and bast won't go back in until the issues with the SC placement denying too much is resolved.

On the other, other hand that was before I set it up to run with pingbooster 3 and a renice to -10. Who cares if my mail gets delivered .02 seconds slower, ya know? I've not had a full 6:6 game with those settings in.

I agree, there isn't much more we as admins can do. I was referring to the code itself. Something is wrong when such a large range of CPU power doesn't seem to have a major difference on the numbers. Either there is a serious bottleneck somewhere that is holding the higher end processors back in a big way or the numbers, as reported to us, are incorrect.

    Hmm, here are my specs

    I run a p4 2.26 ghz with 512megs of DDR 7200

    I have a 16 slot server (+1 for reserve)

    ns_bast
    ns_caged
    ns_eclipse
    ns_hera
    ns_nancy
    ns_napo
    ns_next
    ns_nothing
    ns_tanith

and on avg pings are around 60-100ms. keep in mind that ping times also include what kinda connection you have and exactly were your users are connecting from, my location has killer peering and its a 100mb connection. But if you have a t-1 to say some mom and pop tier 3 provider, your ping times are not going to be so good usually.

    Very nice!

I have amd 2000 xp+ with 512 ddr and server is 18 player.

Pings are very good.. something like 15-40

Please don't bring this up, its not an issue.

I get 150-200ms (on the score board) and I'm on the LAN so i know its not my connection.

same here. If you want to see the real ping do a
    net_graph 3

mine shows 0-15 ping while the scoreboard shows anywhere from 50-300 depending on map and conditions etc..

I cant convince players that my server isn't a piece of **obscenity**. That's the only thing bothering me.. the average player is ignorant
