i think it means that it slows you down so that you can take a break, to allow you to regenerate or something.

Regenerative break probably refers to the way you slow down when charging up. This especially comes in handy when you're travelling FAR too fast to see anything that might hit you.

I especially like how it gives a small speed boost when it shoots though.
EDIT : And yes, it does destroy mines. That's the best reason to use it. Even moreso when you're fighting the bosses in the 20s and beyong, as they lay a LOAD of mines.

The lengths I'll go to get a half decent screenshot.

That's 3 bosses in front of me.

how do you guys manage not to get hit?
i can get to like level 5 from the start (starting at level 5 not in an upper lvel) with the time given.
I manage to dodge the bullets quite well, and the poor hit registration helps me aswell.
But sometimes i get hit and then my time runs out.

i can dodge the large slow bullets very easily, they are no problem, even the boss spreads are a joke, because you can easily predict them.
But when there is a whole bunch of these small things onscreen, wich fire these triangles i´ll die often

Kenta Cho is the modern freeware shm'up god. All hail Kenta Cho!

TUMIKI fighters is also a very fun game in which you collect parts of dead enemies and add them to your ship. Every piece adds to your firepower, but they also get destroyed very easily.

You know, if you hit the chargecannon button at the title screen it will run a replay of the last run you did, this is how I get screenshots without risking death <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
