<div class="IPBDescription">The Welder</div> Heres a first part of my series, GTKYW (Getting to know your weapon)

I will start first, with the Welder.

"OMG GIVE ME HEAVY AMOUR COMMANDER"
"GERNADE LAUNCHER COMMANDER! NOW!!!"

How many times have you heard that? Theres only one weapon you need, and its cheap, reliable, and will get you from Base Start Up to Hive Destroying.

I am talking about the wonderful WELDER.

The welder can be used for MANY objectives! If its repairing turrets to cutting webs, it gets the job done, MOST weapons cant.

First off, It closes vents. How cool is that? When you close a vent, you are preventing and slowing the alien forces down, tremendously! I dont know how many times ive heard an alien curse because of the vent being blocked off. It helps, trust me!

Second, A popular use (and what what people think the welder is only for) repairing amour. Damaged in combat? Pull out the welder and the team mates will love you.

Third is, my most favorite, COMBAT. What the heck you ask? The welder is a VERY good tool for close combat. I dont know how many kills ive gotten with a welder! Hold it down, keep it on an enemy and splat! They are dead meat. Think of the welder as a short ranged flame thrower <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->.

Fourth, web cutting. Face it, webs are pesky. They are death traps, waiting for an unexpecting prey. But with the welder, they are nothing, simply point and click. Webs gone. Youve just cleared a passage to victory, a passage, to the hive.

Another use is against enemy structures. Welders take them down faster then knifes OR light weapons.
So instead of slicing a structure for a minute or so, open to attacks, you can take it down in a short time period, without making that much noise too.

Last, but not least, it doesnt only destroy towers and enemies, it repairs buildings. Most people ask for a welder when things are damaged. As youve read, its not just for damaged turrets and such. Its great for repairing on the go. Passing an out post with a damaged turret factory. *BZZZ* Repaired, done. Youve saved your team lots of trouble.

Thanks for reading my welder guide and look out for my future weapon guides of, Getting to know your weapon.

Nice guide. I'm looking forward to the others.

Just a quick question on the welder can you open vents after they have been welded? i don't think you can but it would be nice to.

how much damage does the welder do?

i was once told that one second of welding is like a direct nade hit. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Okie dokie!
ive done my research, and welder damage comes to 450 damage a second if you use it correctly <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Also, welded vents can be opened by the spit from(and only from) a gorge. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

oh wow. so basically the welder is as close to the ULTIMATE MELEE WEAPON OF DOOOOOOOM as it gets?

how fast does the welder do damage? is it like an insanely fast fire rate but does 1 damage per? or does it come in big chunks?

    13 damage per server cycle.

It doesnt kill aliens immidiatly though, since they have like, carapace and stuff, and they are jumping around the guy thats trying to weld him <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->, but its REALLY effective against buildings. Although dont try welding an offense chamber <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

hm no I've welded many aliens and ended up dying. The welder is useful later on when you actually have HA and turrets maybe at some points to weld... but definately is a resource waste early game when you should be mass expanding focusing on building resource, turrets, and securing the first hive.

Plus ever notice fades shoot that acid crap through the grates and you can't shoot them if u welded the grate?

If you weld grates make sure they aren't by a hive locating or else that will happen to you. And it sux let me tell you.

I agree. The welder is a really awesome tool. It takes a lot of skill and more than a little luck to drop an alien with it, but it's still friggin awesome if you can get ahold of an alien with it. (Nothing is more amusing than Asswelding an onos to death. The disbelief and profanity is enough to make your day.) My only caveat about welder melee combat is the amount of time it takes to get the sucker out, turned on, and cookin. Many a time have I shot my primary weapon dry, and switched to my welder in preparation to dish out some HOT HOT PLASMA TORCH JUSTICE, only to get whacked while the welder's still in the 'pull it out and turn it on' animation.

Also, having a few guys with welders for 'cleanup duty' to take out resourcers/defense towers after others have dropped the offense chambers is great. It's a huge timesaver over nibbling the health off of structures with a knife.

I've tested welds, and Lerk spikes can break them in one shot too.

Sure, welded vents will stop skulks and fades, but don't count on it to hold forever.

It's useful to know that the welder doesn't make very much noise either.

I like to use the welder to take down a hive or 2 if the game is going really bad for the marines, just zip up on top of it with a jet pack and weld away:) Takes about a minute or so and it's so much fun to see 5 onos and fade or 2 come running back to see the hive dead while I move onto another.

This gives the marines valuble time to regroup and repair defences.
