I am somewhat familiar with your condition as I was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea several years ago. I had 3 sleep studies similar to what you're about to undergo. I have to say I find it odd that they're forcing you to sleep outside of your normal sleep pattern to test for sleep disorders, but I guess they have a reason.

As to staying awake all night, good luck. Crank up the stereo, get out of your seat every 30 minutes or so and walk around, splash cold water on yoor face.

They will attach something like 24 leads to you (I had a narcolepsy test also) and stick you in a totally lightproof/soundproof room. Man, whatever you do DON'T yank your crank or anything like that cuz you <b>ARE</b> being watched, both by the techs and the camera recording you. This goes for scratching your *** too. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

programming and level designing keeps me up; until I get a leak that I'm too tired to go looking for.

    Anyway:

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=93817' target='_blank'>Watch the hour long GDC Spore footage</a> (again, if already viewed <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

<a href='http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php' target='_blank'>Download Winamp</a> and watch some internet TV (or at least spend 20 minutes trying to get on one of the cool Simpsons/Futurama/Family Guy/Seinfeld channels.

<a href='http://community.sparknotes.com/sparktests/' target='_blank'>Take some "The Spark" quizzes</a> (burns time, at least)

<a href='http://dict.leo.org/?lang=en&lp=ende&search=' target='_blank'>Look up German words to your hearts content</a> at the LEO dictionary (also does German<->French)

Pick an article at <a href='http://www.everything2.com/' target='_blank'>Everything2</a> or <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page' target='_blank'>Wikipedia</a>. Everything2 is more of a bunch of jokes/inane/misinformed stuff jumbled together, while wikipedia is more like an encyclopedia.

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94110' target='_blank'>Shoot kittens out of cannons</a> (and into spikes and stuff...)

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94066' target='_blank'>Go really fast</a>

Play <a href='http://www.theblackforge.net/' target='_blank'>Alter Ego</a> (an old game where you live a live based on some psychological stuff from birth to death) - guaranteed an hour of time if it works/you play it.

Many people in my family and others I know are playing <a href='http://games.yahoo.com/games/downloads/bj2.html' target='_blank'>Bejeweled 2</a>; pretty fun puzzle game (but it's fairly randomized, so you can run out of moves on level 20 or level 2 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). Still fun, and downloadable too.

<a href='http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=147276' target='_blank'>Punk-o-matic</a> is a game that was in a thread in the forum a while ago; if you like sorts of music it could keep your interest for a bit.

Mandatory placement for the <a href='http://www.ebaumsworld.com/flash/endofworld.html' target='_blank'>End of the World</a> flash movie.

<a href='http://www.celebrityprankcalls.com/#ermy' target='_blank'>Prank phonecalls made with celebrity soundboards</a> always end well. Of course, you could skip the crap and just go right to the <a href='http://www.funnyjunk.com/pages/arnoldgateway.htm' target='_blank'>Arnold Schwarzenegger calls Gateway</a> on a different site.

And, as much of the other stuff in my favorites/memory is of little use to others or of low interest (who wants to know about spectral classifications, wooo!):
<a href='http://www.zug.com/classics.html' target='_blank'>Learn about how no one cares about what you sign on a credit card receipt</a> at ZUG (among other 'pranks').

Pretty sure I'm done now. What is that; 3 hours worth of stuff?

You could just use your strength of will to not fall asleep. That's what I did for Episode III: I just decided not to sleep. 3 hours of sleep for over 36 hours awake I believe.

Download and read some Manga (Yakitate!! Japan! Its not licensed, so no worries), Shoot aliens online, just browse for stuff, I find it amazingly easy to stay up, when I have something interesting to do.

    Munchies, and drinks.

the munchies give you sometihng to do.

The drinks make sure you get up (when you have to pee <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

My dad had a sleep apnea test, and he eventually got one of those air masks for his face. He too didn't have to sleep in an odd time of night. I think your hospital doesn't have the staff for the night, heh.

Interesting. OSA is a very common sleep disorder than can easily be overlooked. They put me on the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and long story short I was a poor candidate for it. I then opted for the Laser assisted uvulapalatoplasty (LAUP) which was performed 3 times on me (the absolute WORSE sore throat you could imagine, <b>EVER</b>). I was told there's only a 50% success rate for it, and although mine was initially successfull, the disorder returned later on. I have an appointment with a pulmonologist soon to see about having another sleep study done. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yes, my dad wears a CPAP at night. I forgot the name of it when I wrote my post. He was diagnosed having forty episodes of apnea during the test, which is quite high.

Yes 40 is high. I had only 24 awakenings and was diagnosed as moderate. What was interesing was my breathing actually stopped several times, and my oxygen level desaturated far to often.

OSA is frequently the primary cause for men having heart attacks while they sleep ... scarey.

Well you could do what me and my friends do when we are craming for a big test the night before or just need to stay up late for an important reason. Take some kind of methylphenidate like ritalin.

    Guild Wars.

Sit in Ashford Abbey, directing people about the place.

Then take someone on a 30mins trip, down to the wrong side of Wizard's Folly, in an attempt to find the Elementalist multi-classer, warp back to Ashford Abbey, and lose them, when they join a foreign-speaking district <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Yay, my life is great!

Turns out the Elementalist multi-classer is a short stroll up a frozen path, with several Hidden Stashes along the route, and 3 easy as hell Ice Elementals along the way.

I lead some poor level 1 person through a whole species-worth of River Skales..

And got him killed 6 times...

    Whoops ^_^
