I find it hard to believe that it's that easy to hypnotise someone.
It didn't occur to me that the gun was simply firing blanks; I thought it might have been BBs or something, which is obviously dangerous for putting out zombies' eyes.
If it were me in there... things would have gone badly, cause I'd have started busting heads when I realised the gun wasn't doing anything.

Derren Brown is awesome, I watch him when ever he's on. He doesn't claim to do anything magical, he's a psychologist and all of the tricks he does revolve around fooling and predicting the actions of the human mind. That is, assuming they are real. He's certainly the most believable as he constantly says throughout his programs that its a trick, an illusion. If its real he's very very clever.
Interesting fact, he did a 'seance' with a bunch of young people, trying to contact the dead or whatever. The program received thousands of phone calls, complaints and questions, people completely freaked out by what was happening on TV and in their own homes.
When he almost shot himself in the head on television playing russian roulette he received about 10 complaints.

That's the russian roulette guy? I remember that, never saw it though. And I dunno, the most convincing part was where he just drops the gun. A person playing a role wouldnt think to do that I reckon.
judging by the way he got the 'zombies' to fall, I think they might've actually been hypnotised or something rather than acting :o
Derren Brown loves his catatonic trances... in each show I've seen he usually puts at least one person into one. Usually it's a ringing telephone box and when a happless victim curiously answers it they just zonk out XD
Derren Brown really is quite the illusionist. If you see his TV program you will soon understand there is a clear reason why a person acts like they do. For example, one time he managed to get Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead guy) to buy a BMX by talking to him for 10 minutes and every other sentence he had a reference to a bike in it. Its all subliminal.

I'm pretty sure anyone who doesn't have extremely lucid dreams would be a bit freaked out to realise they'd just entered a video game world; even if it would be fun to be there it would probably be extremely adrenaline packed.
On the gun: Between going up to people who seem unresponsive and possibly diseased; would you rather use a fairly ineffective weapon or hand-to-hand? I know I'd rather shoot at stuff and prevent it from getting close to me, if the choice is to be made.
I'm also going to have to say it's not a paintball gun, otherwise the person in the wedding dress would really be hurting from those 5+ point blank shots.

there are two different types of blanks, ones that make noise, and ones that have muzzle flash. ones with muzzle flash DO shoot part of a cartriage about 10 feet. What they should have given him is a Co2 powered airsoft gun. Realistic looking, kickback, sliding chamber, ect... Dont know if its real, but if it is, hes not to intuitive for not shooting the door, wonder why in the hell there is a canister on the end of a gun (as for not having guns parts of Europe, you still have movies and TV ffs.) wonder why the glass didnt break when he shot the window, ect...

Plus, in the UK we don't have guns. So how do you expect someone to know how to check a gun?
Besides, Darren Brown has done cooler things.
