Why Don't The Commanders Research.....

<div class="IPBDescription">Jetpacks and the Vision Enhancement</div> I find that commanders don't research the vision enhancement and/or say that jetpacks are useless(like on ns_eclipse). When attacking the hive, most of the time you can just land on the hive(with jetpacks) and just use your HMG or knife to destory it. Vision helps out for ambushes and acts as hive sight(Can you wear HA with a jetpack?). Do you think I just went to a n00b server or what?

I usually start on the HA/jetpack upgrades once I'm done with motion tracking, and an armor upgrade. I don't get weapon upgrades until I've done 2 armor upgrades. Having heavy firepower isn't going to help if your marines still die quickly. Medium firepower, while staying alive longer, is better IMHO.

Hrm.....have you seen 5 people with jetpacks storm a hive room and don't get killed by skuls? Or even better, having 1 marine with a jetpack wield/knife a hive without dying.
If you have marines that can aim, then motion tracking might be a good first upgrade, but on most public servers that isn't going to happen. Even if they CAN aim, they're going to die quickly if you don't have at least heavy armor ready by the time the fades come.
My usual track now is to make a beeline for heavy armor, then get HMGs, then motion tracking, then all weapon upgrades, then all armor upgrades. Jetpacks are last.
I was able to kill 10 fades in a row that were attacking the hive room we secured, just by watching them move around, and planning ambushes while they focused their attention and energy on the turret factory. Ambushing a fade is the best tactic for killing them, as even though they're great at long (acid rocket) and short (claw) ranges, there's that mid-range where you're out of claw range and (if timed properly) he's too low on energy to acid rocket you while your HMG tears him apart. Oh and since you're in mid range, the HMG's spread is just about the right size for a Fade.

Motion Tracking = more useful than armor upgrades, etc.
There's no Motion Detection upgrade. Now let us never speak of this again...
Seriously, it's probably one of the best kept Marine secrets/under used superabilites. Motion Detecting, Phase Gates and Jetpacks all either eliminate Marine's weaknesses or eliminate Alien strengths. I love my Shottie/JP combo.

As far as motion tracking goes, I think it's hands down the best tech marines can have at their disposal. All the HMG's and welders in the world don't stack up to the ability to know that there's a skulk hiding above the door you're about to go through.
A experienced marine with a jetpack is something to fear if your a alien - fades are there only real threat.
JP's also very good if u need to push out scout/take those far off RP's....
JP's they shouldnt be used as a backbone of your attacking force (except in emergencies) but they make wonderful interference troopers to the aliens - slowing them down messing up there buildings..

Anyways, I like practicing my skulk ninja abilities (WITHOUT LEAP) against jetpackers. Lots of fun.
