It will work but it will only run at the 4x speed.

EDIT: you might also need a new power supply to properly support it.

Why would i need a new power supply? Ive got a 500 watt, and only a few things are pluged into it...

    System Requirements:
    Power Requirement:
    350W Power Supply
    4-pin Connector

aye. it will work, but only work at 4x.

are you 100% sure it's only 4x? still, dont forget that with some mobos you can overclock the AGP.

Aye, my Radeon 9000 is a 4x/8x card, and so is the 9600XT I'm getting before too long, it'll work, just not at the 8x speed.

So if you plug an exclusively 8x AGP card into an exclusively 4x slot (i.e., not 4x/8x on the label), the card will downgrade automatically to 4x, sorta like RAM? Does it work the same way for a 4x card with a 2x slot, and from an 8x to a 2x slot? And backwards?

Apparently, it's impossible to plug an AGP card into an incompatible slot. The connector is specifically made so that cards will only fit into slots that they will work with.

For the most part, if they didnt use a horrible slot, it will fit and just run slower. Some agp slots are actually reversed, so the card is supposed to be on the other side of the slot, but thats mostly with older ones.

Also some of the newer cards may not fit correctly if older agp specs used a different form factor.

O and the power supply requirements factor in the rest of a decent computer usually (the card itself dosen't use up 350 watts <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
