    just reinstalled?

    do a nother format/reinstall.

make a CD with your important protection stuff (msoft adware blocker, avg/avast, your pick on firewalls etc etc etc)

install all that stuff then start your updating.

also do the standard stuff to disable netsends and what not..

    ninja edit:
    yah, kinda looks like netsends...

These are messages that randomly pop up, right? Go to Start, run, type in services.msc. Find the service called "Messenger" and right-click to go to its properties. Stop the process, and change it to "Disabled". This doesn't affect MSN messenger at all, it's completely separate.

Did you try what I just posted? That should be the solution, if the problem is what it sounds like.

lost is correct, those are not microsoft notices, those are netmsgs. follow his instructions to turn them off

    info about netmsg.exe:
"Net_Message is a small tool to send messages across the network, using the Windows Messenger Service, so there is no client install required to receive the messages. It has a number of other features as well"

no, ms isn't that evil (to its PC users, the xbox360 is another story. how they plan to break one billion with costs like that is beyond me)

edit: umm ... you don't want to delete them. you want to turn the service off. start --> run --> services.msc --> net messanger --> disable

try lavasoft's adaware and any virus scanner you can find as welll as regcleaner and possibly pest patrol.

    Install them.

    Disconnect from the internet.

    Possibly go into safe mode.

Scan and rescan using adaware and a virus scanner (both must be updated).

Use regcleaner to look through the new registry entries (easy to use interface) and delete suspicious ones, like no company, some random name, ect...

Run a pestpatrol scan (using the trial version) which will tell you where any remaining files are (though it cannot remove them). Hunt them down and delete them yourself.

I use adaware regularly, as well as virus scanners. For the one major lockdown I did pestpartol could locate more than both other proggies, and I could finally get that crap off.

You disabled the service. Did you stop it?

You need to stop the messenger service, then disable it. Reboot if you want to go the extra mile.

It seems like half your problems would be solved by a few, free, simple tools. You can get free firewalls (Kerio, ZoneAlarm), free antivirus (AVG), free spyware removal (Spybot, AdAware), free OS updates (windowsupdate.microsoft.com). I use all 4 things (Norton for antivirus and my Linksys router has a firewall, both of which cost money) and I have had 0 problems with spyware, viruses, weird messages, and the like.

well, i used to have nothorn 2004 pack w/ firewall+antivirus, but somehow i let my friend use the serial, and now it became one of the "crackz" u can find on the internet.

anyway, i think it got turned off, it stopped sending me messages today.
