CHAPTER 1

<!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Pipes burst as they fell through the ceiling, hissing in protest as they clanged roughly onto the grilled floor. The walls groaned as pressure was put onto them, the room was collapsing, along with the whole base. The small gorge ran as fast as his legs could carry him, waddling like a wombat, dodging the falling pipes and ceiling. His only instinct was to survive.

Just hours before he was happily napping in his own little soft bed next to his owners, the only place he had known is beside the humans, being raised around them and raised by one of the younger types of human. His name was Nadair, he had always known he was different, but never knew where hed come from. It was then, while he slept peacefully next to his master that the sirens began, and then a loud explosion was heard far west of the base. Things seemed to happen so fast, much of it now was a blur.

Nadair ran faster as he fought back tears as he tried to avoid being smothered by the rubble falling from above. He wasnt sure if it was his tears, or his mind making everything blur now, but insdie he was afraid, alone and upset.

He was roughly picked up by his master, he yelled out for his mother, Nadair was dangling in his arms like a toy as his master carried him out of the room into the hallway, the boy yelling even more, his voice showing signs of fear and urgency. The booming came closer and something above exploded, then the crashing came form above. The clanging and hissing, coming closer from above, Nadair looked up at the ceiling, the noise now booming and echoing. A pipe then smashed through the last layer of the ceiling bringing with it everything it had collided with ontop of his master. Flying through the air he roughly slid across the floor and looked toward his master..

Nadair tripped over a pole and grumbled in frustration at what had happened. His emotions were all tangled like a web together, he couldnt tell where to go or what to do. Sitting up he looked about the dark rooms, the groaning of the walls grew louder as they strained to hold up what was left of this facility. Lights dangled like yoyos on a string flickering ever so slightly to light the path ahead, poles lay strewn across the floors and walls along with rubble, and blood. Nadir closed his eyes again to force back his tears.

Running up to his master he whimpered as he searched for him, running to where he was last seen, searching for any sign of him. His scent wasnt that good, and he finally found a faint scent of his master, struggling under a pile of poles he peeked through the gaps to see his masters body laying limp and pressured by the weight of the pipes. The smell of blood was definate, his master will not stand no more. He was gone, Nadair could only stare in disbeleif as sadness swept over him. Pulling himself backwards he could only do one thing now.. run.. run away..

Nadair stood up looking down the dark hall, his heart sore from pain, his energy drained from dodging and running, the path ahead did not show much of his future, nor did the path back. the groaning echoed as more pipes fell, steam hissing out of pipes as they parted from their connections. The noises eased and the Commotion had slowed. Slowly Nadair walked towards the dim light hall before him, he did not know where he was going.

Memories flew past when Nadair stared at his masters dead body, memories of happiness, memories of the times when the sun was bright and joyful. The smell of blood was scary yet desiring, which scared him more. But it scared him more to see, he had no more friends.

Nadair grumbled to himself. Why him, why now, why did all this happen, why couldnt he have died too.. Then Nadair felt an odd prescence behind him, quickly he turned, but there was nothing there, slowly he started to walk onwards. The slight sound of nails tapping metal could be heard, like a pattern, the ticking along walls, roofs, the floor. Nadairs senses were going wild, he became agitated and walked faster. The ticking following him with ease.

He stopped and turned and growled, frantically looking everywhere for the creator of these sounds. The ticking stopped, silence, Nadair shuddered uncomfortably then turned. Walking again, the ticking started at a slow pace, the faster he walked, the faster the ticking became. This was too much, Nadair broke into a full run and frantically looked for ways to escape this stalking thing.

The ticking wasnt close behind as he ran as fast as he could, under and over the pipes strewn down the hall. Of all the sounds he could hear, they muted and all he could hear now was this ticking sound. Afraid Nadair hollered for any sign of help from a marine to find him. They would know who he was, he always wore a blue collar.

Nadair tripped and stumbled as he frantically called and searched for marines to help him from this ticking beast. Noone came, Nadair stopped and panted, He couldnt run no more. The ticking stopped, Nadair turned slowly, his eyes met with anothers eyes. The eyes of a stranger, yet he felt like a friend. He had never met this thing before, but there was a sence of friendship between them..

There was no future down the hall he walked. But there was a future if he followed this stranger. "the beginning of an end" the creature snarled calmly.

    Whoa!

    Awesome!

So, what I understand is, this is a gorge who's never seen the Kharaa before, and lives with humans.(Cool!)

Wherever he's been living has come under attack by the Kharaa, and Nadhir met up with a skulk.

It'll be sad if he really goes to the darkside, having a gorge for a pet sounds so cool... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

A gorge living with humans peacefully, and with happy days too... Man, I <b>really</b> wish I could see the past of poor Nadhir...

quite a good story in terms of character development and atmosphere. I wouldnt expect anything else than a Kharaa's point of view from kyliegirl. but this is different as its from a gorge, not a skulk and im interested to see hwo this would continue.

one thing im confused about. if Nadhir was living with the humans for so long, how come he isn't dead from freezing? I thought Kharaa cant live without their hive?

if you ready my story a friend. everything im basing off is simaler bases like the one from my story a friend, in which scientist were containing and studying the kharaa for a long period of time, some of the kharaa which were born from the hive were immediately taken into care to try to make the perfect pets. Of course, the skulks were unsuccessful as pets because of their timid nature and a rather short attitude, some getting frustrated. skulks being born for ambushing and battling, were obviously not easy to train and thus were only used for further studies to try to understand why they were born that way.

The gorges which were born seemed to be more gentle and shy, which made them perfect pets, having an operation to remove the production sack inside their body prevented them from making little chambers around their beds. Removing their production sack also was like nutering a dog, they became more gentle and willing for attention and didnt turn on their masters. Which made them ideal pets, the gorges made the perfect alien offworld pets for children, being playful, chubby and making cut gargly sounds, many on bases were given to children as pets.

theres the story of why the gorge is domesticated.

I will see about trying to reveal Nadair's past sometime <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> depends how many want to know how he started and how he became the pet of a little boy, and what they did together to make the gorge so loyal to him.

i read your story, "A friend" and i thought it was quite sad. so this story is something like that one? i hope the ending is not going to be as sad or depressing.

a backstory would be interesting too.

    nice story..

but isn't the gorge an evolved form of a skulk?

skulks have to gesate into gorges..
